I don't know. The furnace might be 50 plus years old. It's a Toridaire, and I've not been able to figure out it's age.

I assume it has some kind of cutoff, since my house didn't burn down.

Probably high temperature limit on the furnace since you said it was heating. Air Flow limit would not have allowed it to light off.
