gmail ios app

What is the difference between gmail phone internal setup and the gmail app?

It does not look like the gmail app does not do unread messages like mail.app does?

Right? I do have a notification on but the damn thing never connects. This is with my own domain through gmail.

Do you mean you never get a badge, banner notification, or notification center entry for new emails? Or do you mean something else?

(I can get any of the above, connected to a regular, individual gmail account).

The Gmail app acts pretty much the same as the website access does. The Mail app does not have as many of the extra options. My Gmail app works fine with the banner notifications.

I like the gmail app better than the Apple mail app.

The biggest difference is Apple's Mail connects using IMAP but Mail does not support IDLE for instant email notifications (push). Google's Gmail app, I believe, will notify you almost instantly of new email.

Gmail EAS support (which did push) was killed earlier this year: »Google kills Exchange support for Gmail
