Western NY/PA has always been pop for as long as I've been here (which has been awhile). A four year stint in CT though taught me that it is called soda there. (And subs are called grinders (crazy right?))

It annoys the shit out of my GF when I call a window a "win-der" LOL. No, I don't normally call it that but will just to annoy her lol.

As for the main part of this thread: Coke.

It'd be soda if I HAD to choose but I call it "coke". Though I don't lump all soft drinks into that category. I do differentiate between mountain dew, dr pepper, etc. As for pepsi/coke, I'll drink either and only if I'm actually looking for a difference will I notice you've brought me pepsi instead of coke. It's not that I think they taste alike, just that I like both equally and really don't care so I never took the time to really tell the differences.

Most of my dad's family is from Pittsburgh so I've heard worsh more than a few times. Same with yunz and why they had to go to the sah side of town. I go nuts trying to comprehend anything with the heavy Italian accent that has somehow still survived with them along with the Pitsburghese.

I've always called it coke. When asking for it at a restaurant that serves Pepsi, they usually say "we have Pepsi, is that OK?" At which point I ask for root beer instead.

On rare occasions, I'll ask for a phosphate.

I about flipped out on a waitress in Texas when I was stationed there. I asked for a Coke to drink and she asked me what kind. I asked what the options were, then she said Pepsi, diet, Mt Dew and root beer. And I informed here that those are PepsiCo products and therefore not legally allowed to be called Coke.
