Re: Charter - Cost Doubled - Can't reach by telephone to cancel

said by cork1958:

I realize I'm only counting 2 (so far and spur of the moment I even mention it) out of how ever many people report in here, but 2 out of the small number here should equate to a larger number of ALL Charter users!

I might be next up. They sent me a notice with my bill ..actually it was in FINE PRINT in the "comments" section that comes as a regular part of the bill, which I figure very few people notice because USUALLY there is nothing printed there.

It says my "promotional offer" is about to expire (I thought it went through April of 2013??) But....

"It is not necessary to contact them unless I want to change my service. "

Only change will be that my service cost will increase by 50%!

It seemed to me that they were "hoping" that I wouldn't notice the increase...LOL

They sent you a notice of the pending increase and yet you opine they're trying to slide one over on you?

There may be things you don't like about Charter such as not having a lower priced tier to fit you expectations, but they are not to blame for people not reading their bills, not understanding what they sign up for, not keeping on where they're at with things, etc.

Yes, it appears they way they performed their "notification" definitely appears to be muddled.

First the notice of the change is in the "comments" section which normally has NOTHING in it. It is in TINY print and it is on the back of the bill. Also it simply states that the current offer is "about" to expire, instead of simply printing a specific date, which of course they darn well know. The funny thing is that it indicates in the comments that, "there is no need to contact them". They hope I don't contact them. LOL

The supposed "regular" price of my service ONLY appeared in this months bill, before all I saw was a price for "HSI". It never showed my account as being on a promo offer until this month.

The interesting thing is that when my initial service tier price (internet lite) was increasing by a mere 5 bucks per month, Charter was good enough to send a separate sheet clearly explaining that the service price was increasing and that if I wanted to inquire further I should contact them. This was early this year.

Disingenuous in how I consider this approach.

I totally agree that a customer should read the bill and understand it but it is clear that Charter was hoping that people would possibly miss this notice since it is in tiny print in a section that never has any information in it or it is advertising something.

The change shows all the more how the new management team is trying to soak the customer by vagueness hiding things where most folks won't look commonly.

I so agree. Its one thing to raise prices but its another thing altogether to do it without full disclosure. If the product is clearly labeled we just have to learn to take it and we would know how bad the increase would be in advance - not sneaking it in over a 2 to 3 month period.

Charter should price products clearly.

The regular price IS clearly labeled on your bill. It is on mine. My bill show exactly how much of a discount I am getting.

Yeah, mine seems to cover all the bases too.

:

] It WAS NOT CLEARLY LISTED ON MY BILL UNTIL JUST THIS MONTH.

FOR THE PREVIOUS TEN MONTHS THE ONLY THING LISTED WAS THE PRICE FOR HSI THAT I WAS PAYING...nothing more.

I like what's happening on this forum. It IS clear that Charter is starting to feel the heat from the first wave of annoyed and unhappy customers now that the "take it or leave it" plan by the new executive manglement is just starting to take place.

Lets keep the heat on them.

Odd... must be a different billing system config in your area. I've had my promo discounts listed on my bills for years.

Then again, upcoming billing changes are also listed up front, 1st page, in a blue callout box next to my current months charges.

If it's important, back it up... twice. Even 99.999% availability isn't enough sometimes.

You got that right, "Take it or Leave It" Pricing compared to what it use to be.

Its Funny, when i agreed to a two year price guaranty i never though i would be guarantied to pay higher prices even when they have lowered prices and taxes. So i can still pay 48 a month for Phone when they now charge 19.99.

Does not seem fair that a company can charge taxes to one customer for a service for up to two years, but not charge the tax for the customer next door. Seems like something is wrong with that.

no i disagree - the new price i got was not disclosed on bill - had to wait 3 bills for it to show.

we all should be able to get and see full price in our area - it should not be a hide a seek game.

when i asked charter folks for new pricing i got it from them in writing and their math did not add up. when i asked them about it took a long while to get clarification and at that point price went up 10 bucks more a month,

Exactly the same here. Plus, I wonder if some are not looking past the summary on the first page to see the line item/itemized details that further into the billing statement.

I'm VERY thorough when inspecting bills of any kind.

I can assure you that NOWHERE within any bill I received during the PREVIOUS ten months was there a mention of any other price listed other than the price I was paying...only with this months bill was a supposedly "regular" price listed.

Your bill doesn't look like this?

Like that example, mine shows the regular price minus any discounts (with the discount name). In the box marked #3 I get any upcoming billing/pricing changes, Live It With Charter point balance, and any upcoming events.

:

It DOES look like that format, BUT under internet..ALL THAT WAS POSTED WAS "HSI Internet" at the price I have been paying for about 10 months...no mention of it being a discounted price at all! It appeared as a regular every day price.

THIS MONTHS BILL has a supposedly new
"regular" price listed above the current price I have been paying for about ten months. Only NOW does it make it appear as a discounted price.

I feel this is REALLY SLEAZY!

Sounds like your area is finally catching up to what other areas like mine have had for years.

Perhaps so.

I think it was possible that the wealth of general areas being served in the past may have been calculated into the equation (wealthier areas had higher prices) and now that "Chopper Tom" (CEO Mr. Rutledge) is in charge he must figure that all areas are as wealthy as the Tri State area around NYC.

That was the case where I am ... we started catching up last year. This month I got a separate full page notice of my pricing change, which was noted last month in a comments block as upcoming.

I think many of the smaller cable systems acquired by Charter may not have unified their forms completely yet. That probably wasn't a priority when they were bleeding money.

Just to clarify, our area has been Charter for at least the last 15 years or so, it appears in my case that something else is going on.

They have been here 10 yrs + ... also. Can't remember the name of the former cable company to look up an exact date when it changed.

You seem to have quite the personal vendetta against this Rutledge fellow. Did he decide your services were no longer needed or something to that effect?
