Its a Yamaha RXV473 which replaced my trusty but outdated one. I'm still learning on how to hook it up but so far got it working with the TV but can't get sound when using SmartHub or Allshare. TV is a Samsung UN46ES7100 smart TV with WiFi.
Here's how I got it configured.
Cable box is hooked into the receiver by HDMI to the HDMI 2 port and then HDMI out to the HDMI 2 (ARC) port on the TV, I have the TV speaker setting in the TV to external. When I go into Smart Hub and try to use Allshare to stream a movie off my PC or use Youtube I get no sound from that source but still get sound from the cable box (unless I turn off the cable box)
What am I doing wrong? I'm having a brain fart trying to figure it out. Anyone know a fix or the correct settings/hook up? -- "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." -Jimi Hendrix |

As you have it now, I think you will get the sound from the cable box through the surround if it's on, or if off, through the TV internal speakers. |

You need an HDMI connection from the computer to the receiver or possibly a digital audio cable. It will then feed the TV through the HDMI cable. BTW, Samsung has some good How To guides on the web page for that TV. -- Need-based health care not greed-based health care. |

2 edits | reply to Fir_Na_Tine Sounds like Smarthub and Allshare is a function of the TV, right? ARC should be handling this, no other cables should be needed. I don't think an audio cable from the PC to the receiver is going to help, since the PC isn't actually doing the playing. I have an RX-V571. I don't use ARC as everything I have connected goes through the receiver, the only output is to the TV and nothing comes back from it. Make sure ARC is enabled on the receiver first. That may all that's needed. It is an option on mine. HDMI control must be on in order for ARC to be enabled. A submenu in HMDI control is to set ARC on or off. On is the default when HDMI control is first turned on. HDMI control can open another can of worms though and i don't think all devices have the ability to play nice together. To avoid it, a digital audio cable can be run from the TV to the receiver instead so that the receiver can play TV content as another source. Again, I don't use it, but in my manual, if I wanted to play the audio from the TV, I would select AV4, if I was using Toslink, for example. |

I did get it to work though. I usually accessed the Allshare thing through the Smart Hub on the TV remote. but then noticed it can also be accessed through the source button. And for some reason the receiver automatically switched to AV4 setting from the HDMI 2 and I get sound fine now on my streamed movies. When I switch back to HDMI 2 its switches back as well, kinda weird but hey it works, sweet.
