| [Speed] Quick question: Download stalls when uploading? Hi guys --
Quick question. I've tried searching around, but using keywords like "download slow when uploading" yields so many results... I'm hoping someone can explain this quickly and easily because I sure don't understand...
I have the Business Class 22/3 (ish) service. When I max out my upload (offsite backup, for example), my downloads crash too and pings jump incredibly. For example, I'm currently maxing the upload (at 3.6ish Mbps), and here is my speedtest...

If I stop the uploading, it returns to normal:

Can someone give me the quick-and-dirty? Thanks!

| The "quick-and-dirty" is that this is normal behavior for an asymmetric connection. You will need to implement rate limiting QoS on your LAN to minimize the effect. Most SOHO grade routers and managed switches and even some residential grade routers will allow you to do this. -- We can never have enough of nature. We need to witness our own limits transgressed, and some life pasturing freely where we never wander. |

Bottom line is if you saturate your uplink without outbound TCP ACK prioritization, your download suffers greatly. |
