| T3 time-out every 33-37 hours like clockwork, fix possible? Background: Modem is rock-solid and has good signal levels:
Zoom 5341J (8-channel), firmware 5.5.4.4J Downstream: 38-39 SNR, 0-1 dBmV Upstream: 35-37 dBmV
(same issue applies to my previous single-channel Motorola SB5120, it's not modem-specific)
Story: Around the time of Suddenlink's last big upgrade (with 15/1.5 speeds), I started seeing T3 time-outs every 33-37 hours like clockwork, which always results in the modem disconnecting and needed to cycle through its re-connect process. This loses connectivity for about 30 seconds to 1 minute. It's so consistent, I can almost set my watch to it. Other than when this is happening, the connection is stable regardless of what I throw at it and speeds are always top-notch - no slow-downs.
The actual log messages from a reconnect are as follows:
Sun Dec 30 11:35:41 2012 Warning (5) ToD request sent - No Response received;CM-MAC=00:1c... Sun Dec 30 11:35:40 2012 Warning (5) DHCP WARNING - Non-critical field invalid in response ;CM-MAC... Sun Dec 30 11:35:28 2012 Critical (3) No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=00:1c... Sun Dec 30 11:35:16 2012 Error (4) DHCP RENEW sent - No response for IPv4;CM-MAC=00:1c:... Sun Dec 30 11:35:16 2012 Critical (3) DHCP RENEW FAILED - Critical field invalid in response
And the incident 37 hours before that:
Fri Dec 28 22:08:14 2012 Warning (5) ToD request sent - No Response received;CM-MAC=00:1c... Fri Dec 28 22:08:14 2012 Warning (5) DHCP WARNING - Non-critical field invalid in response ;CM-MAC... Fri Dec 28 22:08:04 2012 Critical (3) No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=00:1c... Fri Dec 28 22:07:53 2012 Error (4) DHCP RENEW sent - No response for IPv4;CM-MAC=00:1c... Fri Dec 28 22:07:53 2012 Critical (3) DHCP RENEW FAILED - Critical field invalid in response
And so on.
This isn't the worst problem to have, but it invariably falls into a time window when I'm on an audio or video chat, which is a pain. -- If you can't open it, you don't own it. |
