Cox Whole Home DVR

What is the cox all home DVR? I currently have an HD DVR (with 2 tuners) that can only hook up to one TV. What is involved with this type of upgrade (connections) and is it more expensive? Can I pick one up from Cox and self install? Does it have more than 2 tuners? I see it has 3 times more storage. All input welcomed.

Edit:
How are people liking Whole Home?
Is it a buggy setup or mainly error free?

The set top box is newer, more features, worth the $5.00 just to get HUB in HD? nope..

Re: Cox Whole Home DVR

I was an early adopter because of the fetures touted when it was announced. Dumped it after my 6 month trial because it was problematic and never achieved what was adverised. Thumbs down.

I still have it and it is much better now than it was the almost two years ago I got it. Interface faster, fewer issues (although alot of them were botched installs). There is also some talk of the ability later in 2013 to make these boxes have the ability to record six shows at once (without the necessity to have two more hosts/tuners). Since it's just 5 dollars more I'm staying with it for now.

I could see where some people would have dumped them even after 18 months, but in the last six months the improvements have been night and day. The last two improvements alone have been better than all the previous combined.

I've had whole home dvr for about 1.5 years. It was problematic and slow at first but it generally works well now. I recently moved and the cox guy told me sometime quarter 1 of 2013 they are supposed to get new boxes with sling box, more than 2 tuners and a bigger hdd here in san diego

it would have to be 3 dvr's networked or new boxes. The current boxes have 2 tuners.

And this is where cox is double dipping by charging extra for the hd channels you're already paying for.

The other dvrs have 500 gig drives in them but cox cripples them down to 160gb via firmware to make the other ones look better and that extra $5/mo!!1

The only reason why they can advertize free is because your NOT paying for the HD, they could be asses and decide to charge $10.00 for the extra HD content, but they DON'T so legally, it's FREE. I do agree that double dipping is wrong, but, lack of "who gives a shit.." and competition doesn't give them a reason why they shouldn't be this way..

Besides, it's mostly premium and I refuse to pay $40.00 a month for movies I can get elsewhere....

I have already said the $5 extra is for the networked of the boxes.

Let's not forget the extra fees that they charge, too. (and now there fighting direct tv in an ad about those extra fees, Cox does the same thing, too.. except Cox won't fade in the rain)

Re: Cox Whole Home DVR

I wonder why Cox doesn't allow the DCX line of the Motorola line to have the full 500GB drive seen and the plus pack channels? I see no difference in the hardware.

That was reversed about a month ago....

And anyone in AZ can now get a Trio box for the Plus channels and HD guide for nothing additional a month.

The 5.00 is only of you want multiple boxes and want them networked.

they're *not* free rob[i dont know how many times ive told you this]

if the hd was really 'free', the sd and hd box would rent the same. same for the dvr.

so do you subscribe to any premium channels? you do? only getting 2 hds on your premiums? theres the cash grab. you gotta have the whole home dvr AND plus pak[all you get here are the rest of the hd channels you're already paying for!!1]

how convenient they put all those above 860mhz and theres only one box that has 1ghz tuners. yep you guessed it: WHDVR!

How dare a private business offer services to turn a profit! The nerve of these people.. They should give everything away for free!

HD hardware is basically commodity these days and in some more competitive areas customers actually GET their 'free hd' as the boxes rent the same.
