[Free] Best replacement for windows live messengerIs this poll still relevant? » Software Forum Member Choice » Preferred Instant Messaging Clients - 2011 Member Choice PollI don't want to use Skype and heard windows live will be discontinued. Or will we still be allowed to use it? I did a search and didn't see this asked.. if already posted opinions on messenger programs currently, please delete. (after showing me the link ) |

I think quite a few are still using Trillian or Pidgin (I use Pidgin) Never really cared for Skype..but the kids use it a lot It will most likely come down to personal preference, Dandy.. Try a few & let us know what you liked best |

» techcrunch.com/2012/11/0 ··· o-skype/Looks like China has no termination date for Windows Live Messenger. I wonder if the use of a foriegn DNS or Proxy would circumvent this and allow Live Messenger users to continue using this service... |

Agreed. I got a lifetime license for Trillian and it works really good. No regrets |

Thanks everyone, you all have given me a lot to work with. I managed to be able to download live messenger on my new computer so have a little more time to decide and test. |

I personally use Miranda IM as it handles a lot of protocols including gmail chat and doesn't have all the bloat of other clients. No dozens of useless connections either. Oh, and it has skins and plugins up the wazzo. Mine's nice and black to match my desktop. If I want to vidchat I'll use actual gmail or skype. TBH, IM is kinda dead. Everything is phone and web based now. |

Call it IM or texting or SMS or MMS or whatever... they're all pretty much the same thing (email without all of the options) regardless of the platform. I try to do as much as possible using just a browser, which does actually support just about everything I need to do. And as far as worrying about taking up more memory goes, since my present computer isn't 10 or more years old, worrying about using memory is not something I do anymore. |
