Goodbye HNG4, Hello Verizon HomeFusion...

I've got VZW coming out on the 5th to install HomeFusion. I'm adding a video of what I was getting on a family member's Samsung Galaxy S III with very good 4G/LTE signal.. I was very pleased and was told I should see the same with Home Fusion.

Not bad for living out in the sticks..

I got incredibly tempted by Home Fusion when VZW 4G ended up in my town a few weeks ago, problem is I download stuff.

25mbps with less than 120ms latency on my phone, I nearly shat bricks figuring there hasn't ever been an ISP out here lol.

But the prices are still pretty extreme for the little amount of data offered, I could burn through more on the Night Zone of my crippled HN9000 not to mention if I got Exede12 I could probably pull 30GB a night if I tried.

last day on HNG4... can't wait because if it's not the slowness, it's the BS action of being FAPPED throughout the whole day since New Years Eve because they claim I hit the 20GB limit and now I must wait until January 10th for my account to renew or pay $10/GB or is it $9.

Meanwhile their Bonus Bytes meter doesn't even work at all. Always shows 100% available, even though I've downloaded data between 2AM - 8AM.

The Fair Access Policy is such a load of crap. How is it that restricting the amount of data a subscriber is allowed, somehow gives everyone else fair access? I've said this over and over that if you want to give fair access then you implement a QoS stardard during the peak usage hours for everyone if congestion is detected on a specific beam. Why the hell do they need to calorie count our GD data usage??

Unfortunately, I'm not the only person using this connection. It's being used on a family ranch and everyone is making use of it and somehow Hughesnet believes 20GB is enough for anytime usage for a 30 day period for a family of 4+.

I know I'll be in the same situation with HomeFusion, but at least I get way lower latency, higher speeds, and a total of 30GB to start. Hopefully, Verizon might increase their data caps on HomeFusion if they can't get enough people to signup fast enough.

I may actually be the only HomeFusion user in the area for miles, because you have to visit a Verizon Corporate Store to signup and you can't do it over the phone and for me, either store was nearly 50 miles away.

Ahhh.. So much speed... now I can actually do stuff that I couldn't do with HNG4.

Hey TexasRebel, have you tried Millenicom's $70 a month 20gb plan? It runs atop Verizon's 4g network so you'll get the same sppeds & lateny, but it is probably a bit cheaper when compared to HomeFusion on a per gigabyte cost basis.

I looked into Millenicom a few months ago, but all they told me was I would be using Sprint's network. Nothing was said about Verizon's 4G network.

Maybe they have changed..

I've got a CradlePoint router that I used back in 2009, but I'm not sure there's a USB device that works with Verizon's 4G network that is compatible with the MBR1000.

Ah, well they added a new plan a few months back that is $70 a month & includes 20gb of LTE or 3g data on Verizon with a MiFi device as the modem, and for the same price they offer 50gb of data on Sprint now, but I presume you prefer Verizon's coverage/speed.

You check your address on the Millenicom site and it lists which plans you are eligible for. If you are in a Verizon area you could have gotten the hotspot/4G plan as mentioned. I'm on that plan, but in a 3G area (figured they'd upgrade sometime). It blows away Wildblue and Exede5 in this area (Exede5 is closed to new customers anyway). You can't bring your own device with the Verizon network plans to start, but you can move the sim card after activation to another device. The Novatel 4620L device can wirelessly connect several devices (or can connect wirelessly with a supporting router for ethernet), has usb tethering, and an external antenna port.

that would work if the entire family were all in one house, but I'm on a ranch living in one home and the rest of the family living in another. I've got a EnGenius link between the 2 houses which is a little over 100 yards.

A hotspot won't work, but a USB 4G/LTE device that plugs into my CradlePoint MBR1000 I have lying around somewhere could work. Just plug the EnGenius link into a port on the MBR1000 and it would work.

I'll have to check if they offer a Sprint 4G/LTE plan with a USB device. It appears Sprint LTE is covering the same footprint that Verizon's LTE in my area.

I've got 14 days to trial out the Verizon HomeFusion. It's blazing fast, but the 30GB does bother me. Millenicom has a unlimited plan, (unlimited until you hit 50GB) for $70. If they have a Sprint LTE solution, I might try it out since it's not on a contract or anything.

I'm going to have to do a long range setup myself for the cousins. They want it out in their calving shed, estimating 500 feet, straight line of sight. They are getting around 2 meg DSL about 17 miles from town. Something like $40 for unlimited from that town. They've had Wildblue, and got sick of it too. No upgrades to Exede, and Gen4 has never been available here yet either (I advised them not to get it anyway).

The other option is something like this. I would think the Homefusion setup would be more reliable long term, made more for always on, home use, and you can get more data. Also, you can take the sim card out of the Verizon hotspot and put it in a USB 4G device, but I don't know if your router supports that model.

If you go to their website, »www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/home···/main.do

and it shows as you are covered, by all means get it.

Use the BBB to get out of your contract with HNG4.

Rebel P~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!
I've never heard of this. I just checked and it says it's available for me. I'm 3 miles SE of Grand Saline. I have Verizon (not an option ot have anything else out here) land line and mobile. I'm 3G 90% of the time but I've noticed lately that every once in a while 4G LTE will pop up. What are the cons to this setup? Is there any cost involved in your trial period? I've already been dealing with the BBB for Gen4 crap so it shouldn't be hard to get out of it. They're still up to their old tricks. A friend that lives 6 miles West (your direction) just got Excede. She's getting 12MB download and her browsing was lightning fast!
Lucky you!

you got 14 days to try it out and cancel without getting hit with a ETF. It's blazing fast and blows satellite out of the water. If you can get an occasional LTE on your phone, chances are you can get Home Fusion. The antenna is a powered antenna that looks a bit smaller than a bathroom sized waste basket. I'm probably 2.5-3 miles as the crow flies from the big 400ft. tower in Edgewood. I get great signal.. You also have to remember that Verizon's LTE is using the 700Mhz spectrum, which cuts right through the trees and foliage.

I've only had a couple of outages, but that was because Verizon was having a area outage in the Texas area.

The only thing of course I don't like is the low data cap. It's 10 more than HNG4's PowerMax anytime 20GB, which is 30GB total. I do wish they would go up in data caps and or give users a free zone at night like Exede.

TXRebel, so you're paying $120 a month for this (but sharing cost with other family members on the ranch)?
10MB has been plenty for me. I've never used all that or the 2GB on my phone. The most I've ever used on the Droid was 1GB.
Does that price include equipment?

$120 + $6.99 (insurance) + Tax = $135-$145. Not gotten a bill yet to verify full charge..

I don't know how some people that claim to be internet savvy are able to stay below 30GB. I actually use my connection to listen to alternative talk radio, watch Youtube videos, playing WOW (World of Warcraft) again which has been over a year..

I would do better with somewhere around a 60GB cap. I can only hope that VZW increases the datacaps in the future, else it's going to cost me a sheitload of money each month. $10 per 1GB over your limit.

They could charge $1 per GB over and still make money in the long run.

FOr the week I've had it ths far, there's no way in hell I'm ever going back to satellite..

4G/LTE is the way to go!!! Forget satellites and gateways!! Just put up more towers and use the 700Mhz spectrum...
