Re: Found Ipod Nano w/cracked screen

said by royhandy:

My wife was working at Best Buy this year selling LG TVs. She found a 6th gen iPod Nano lying in the parking lot. The screen was cracked and I told her, "There is no way that thing is going to turn on. If it does, there's no way it works."

I tried to turn it on and nothing happened. Plugged it into my computer and, lo and behold, iTunes recognized it. iTunes wanted to know if I wished to synch this new iPod with my library.

I left it plugged in for a while and, amazingly, after I ejected it, the touchscreen still works even though it looks like it was stepped on or run over!

Back in the day, I repaired PowerBooks a lot! Seems like build quality has gone up since those days.

Now to get this guy posted on CL's L&F.

I wonder if the kid who lost it is so joyous??

You can call Apple 800 number on web site or stop by the best buy to see if it was reported lost.

That is if you are so inclined

If one treats an iPod in a way like that and then drops it and cracks the screen in the parking lot of best buy then they dont need to have an iPod. It would seem to me one would not take care of it anyway.

I didn't know Apple has a Lost and Found number.

In the Craigslist Lost&Found ad I asked for model/color and specific artists. I also mentioned that having the S/N would speed up recovery of the lost device since, you know, the rightful owner would probably be the only person who has that info.

edit: "S/N" not "SSN". Also, if there is another way to positively identify ownership, let me know.

i would think it most likely fell out of the car and broke either on contact or when a tire ran over it...

AND to the other post - Apple does not have a lost device line but if the device was locked with FindMyPhone or called into Apple and locked they will have a record - and possible they can look up the serial number to match the iTunes account associated with it

I guess I was brought up to view things differently......

I posted in my first (unedited, might I add) post that I was putting a Lost & Found up on Craigslist. I didn't even think about Apple being able to crossreference an iTunes account. I will call Apple this evening. If I have no luck through them, I will repost on CL with the correct info.
