no connection in bridge mode

Ive been battling at&t for a week now about this. Everything worked fine until this amazing piece of equipment the Motorola 2210 crapped out.

In short the two technician visits and the 10+ hours on the phone tell me all the input signals are finally good and everything looks great. I just have two IP addresses in my line.

I had the modem setup as the PPP server but I just keep dropping internet every hour or so. Finally I selected "let the router or other pc handle pppoe" "this is also known as bridged mode"

I went into my NetgearN600 settings and selected that I "require a password for login" I put in the at&t provided username and password. I left service name blank. My connection mode is "always on" I selected "get ip and dns addresses automatically" and default mac address.

I dont have internet connection. I can connect to the network. Just no internet

Did you use your FULL email address for the user name or just the name? It requires the full email address including the @bellsouth.net or whatever.

Have you power cycled the Motorola 2210 since putting it into bridge mode? I have run into cases where that was required for some modems. I have also run into cases where a power cycle was required for some routers when their WAN was changed between DHCP and PPPoE modes.

Unfortunately, I have also in the past run into problems where BellSouth/AT&T had made firmware changes to modems that they provided and/or made changes in their infrastructure that made bridge mode in some modems incompatible with some routers. I have seen that happen for my own connections and for several clients as well.

For example, several months before I dumped AT&T in 2011 (the PPPoE issue wasn't why I dumped them, but it was certainly another nail in their coffin lid), I had to change my two 2210's to do the PPPoE instead of letting my Cisco dual WAN router do it because suddenly I just lost IP connectivity. The lines were up and in sync, and the router's log reported that the PPPoE sessions had established, but because of changes that AT&T had done on their end, I could no longer get IP connectivity if I used PPPoE on my Cisco router (traffic went to the gateway, but no further). I was able to temporarily connect an old TRENDnet router (that I normally used as only a WiFi AP) to each 2210 and I could do PPPoE from the TRENDnet router; I just could no longer do PPPoE from my Cisco RV082 dual WAN router.

I have also had them just change my network password for no reason.
Last instance just a couple of weeks ago....

DSL just suddenly stopped working.... solid sync but no service. Router (Netgear) seemed unchanged in any way. My access to it was still just fine.

I was lucky and got a savy rep... who I up front told what happened what I have tried, the modem is bridged and I'm not undoing that and direct connecting that is not the problem.

They got it, and got things done quick with a few security questions and no script running.

Can't say for sure they randomly changed my net PW (as I couldn't find my written down copy) but just resetting that to what they told me it was, fixed everything.

Again seems odd the router could get zapped to only effect that and not my router login PW, or any other parameter settings, but just my ATT net PW.

So I tried the power reset and that didn't fix it.

I could however tell that the router was trying to log in because the "I" on the netgear would blink and the "activity" light on the at&t modem would blink as well.

I came home yesterday to a message on my computer saying that at&t detected a username and password conflict on my network and needed to run software to correct it. Well it got to a point where it was gathering my information and it just eventually timed out.

Of course after complaining to at&t they sent me a "free" modem/router combo and that works perfectly fine. The signal is weak and my dual band $200 netgear router is now useless.

I guess AT &T just wants you to use their crap equipment. I used all the exact information on their stuff that I did on the netgear. I wish I didn't hate Comcast so much.

You "should" be able to disable the WiFi radio in the AT&T supplied gateway box, and use your Netgear router as a WiFi access point in order to be able to take advantage of the Negear router's better WiFi capabilities.

Here is a generic link from this site's »Wireless Networking forum that describes how to use a WiFi router as an access point: »Wireless Networking Forum FAQ »Using a Wireless Router as an Access Point

Well that certainly makes it easier for them.

Again as mentioned above... was lucky to get a rep that actually knew something... and before they could start scripting me told them everything I'd tried and how I had diagnosed it (bad net PW everything else just fine) and no I am NOT unbridging the modem just give me the password that may have for some reason changed.
But it is now their cryptic unchangeable PW not my own so no real way to remember.
They agreed and after the security questions just gave me that and corrected everything... Saved them time and me frustration.
But again odd that would be the ONLY thing my router would forget and all else working. This time it went in the filing cabinet. Next time, maybe know no somehow you changed it without notice.
And it happen right around midnight when such a thing would happen.
