[Connectivity] Hmm SB6141? White? Comcast New Modem Page?I was looking at » mynewmodem.comcast.net/ and noticed something strange... Is there any difference between this and the black model? "Motorola SurfBoard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem - Retail Packaging - WHITE"
»www.amazon.com/Motorola- ··· _pr_pb_t |

I have the SB6141 in black. The white must be something new because it sure wasn't available 4 months ago. Looking on the Motorola site it only shows black. Sure it has the same guts. |

The packaging is definitely designed for retail/consumer education. The backpanel I/O is also labeled whereas on brown-box SB6141s. it's a bare metal backplate. |

I have the feeling this is being done specifically to separate leased modems from purchased ones - cable modem pilferage remains a major pain (all cable-based HSI providers, not just Comcast). |

There's a review on Amazon of a guy that claims the black ones for sale are all used (note that they are not sold by Amazon directly - only 3rd party vendors). He claims the white ones are the only legit ones. Amazon sells the white one.
Don't know if it's true, but in this case, I'd make sure to buy straight from Amazon, even if it cost more. |

Not true, I bought a black one thru Amazon when they were first released and it was clearly a factory new device. It came in brown box packaging not retail packaging. That said, you do risk purchasing a returned item with anything you buy if you are not careful from whom you purchase. |

The White SB6141's are the retail version, as seen here at Motorola site » www.motorola.com/us/cons ··· ,pd.html ,these are also at Best Buy. The Black SB6141's are the brown box ISP version. |
