Re: [Cable] Youtube lags at night still, upgrade cache servers?

OI! I can confirm it only happens during peak time.

TBH it was nice, I wasn't able to watch youtube so I did extra homework but at this very moment I'm streaming 2 1080p vids and they are buffered and playing.

Happening here again too. Can't even come close to streaming 720p...it was working fine a few hours ago.

Still getting buffering issues here in Kanata (Fallowfield POI) during peak times, but its better than it was say a month ago where it would buffer at snail's pace all the time.

Today, I was watching a video around 10 pm and that was having some issues. Come 11:30pm and buffering issues were gone.

Speed-wise, again - not a connection problem:

I'm with Teksavvy in Kitchener (on 28/1). I also almost always have youtube problems at night with 1080p streaming. It's usually later at night.

I can watch a 1080p video no problem around 6pm. It buffers extremely fast. Around, say, 9-10pm, things really slow down. I can perform all other internet tasks at regular speeds, so I assume it's something on Youtube's end, really.

McNicoll, which is congested as well, but it's not the main reason for this issue. I can still download @ 28mbit off usenet with multiple connections during peak hours.

Is it possible to have an update on this from TSI?

@teksavvy.com

I just ran a ping test to google had 22 fail out of 42 (run>cmd ping google.ca -n 42) and over 10 of the responses were +1000 ms. I rebooted my modem now all 42 passed and average ping was 47ms max 57ms

»Re: [Cable] Peak hours SUPER slow!

See my post there. Not 100% sure this is what it is yet but let's wait for the upgrades to be done to see if it gets sorted.

Google just finished the last few config bits of an upgraded caching node, it should be up within the next week.

Good to hear that. Hopefully that will resolve most if not all of the YouTube related issues for quite some time.

How long is quite some time? I've never had this issue before...Until this week, so I'm glad this thread came up. I'm in Ottawa West btw and I'll be checking next week I guess...

I've had issues with Youtube ever since switching to Teksavvy from Rogers... Of course Teksavvy has always said it's not their problem. I've just come to deal with it now.

Just to add a little more info for everyone. The issues with Youtube is occuring over here in AB with Shaw and Telus. Both my neighbours on either side of me are having the issues, yet I'm not. Although I have DHCP/DNS being handed out via a DC, nothing else is different besides I'm on a Biz line instead of a residential. I also have two static's assigned to the account. As far as DNS, my forwarders in the DC are set to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 only and have been for 2+ years. I haven't seen one issue at all, yet the two right beside me can't play Youtube to save their life.

I haven't had any issues with YouTube on the Greensboro POI (both non-peak and peak times).

I on TSI DSL near Ottawa, and I'm also experiencing this problem during peak time. It's not just youtube, but also other video sites (ie. Vimeo), so I suspect it's more general congestion on TSI than just youtube. But maybe there's also a specific problem with a youtube cache server on top of the congestion problems mentioned here:

I've been trying to watch the US superbowl commercials since about 4am and not only is it slow, buffering flat out stops! ...if you want to call that a peak time, so be it. This is for any youtube video, any resolution. It's not just today, it's nearly all the time. Like other people have said, it's only youtube so something isn't right. Pretty much all other sites and online activities go at full speed when youtube is crippled. This started happening only after i left Rogers.

yeah youtube still sucks on TSI.

I don't think it's a problem with TSI actually. I think it's a problem with the cable in particular as I seem to have absolutely NO issue with YouTube (even in HD) on their DSL service.

that's silly considering it's easy to test out last mile issues. regardless i just switched to another cable provider and i'm not getting any youtube issues.

It does seem quite unusual. Perhaps it may have something to do with the difference in network congestion between the TSI cable and TSI DSL?
