Re: Bandwidth Exhaustion Northern Indiana/Marshall County
We are over in the next county from you (Starke). The service becomes almost unusable in the evenings from 6PM - 12A here. I'm on a 6M/768K plan and I'm lucky to pull 1/400 during this time. I've recently had evenings that the connection either stopped responding or would speedtest at .12/400.
Here are my speed test results this evening...
As you can see from my router bandwidth logs as the evening goes on my available bandwidth gets worse. We have 2 DSL lines in our home so it's double the ripoff as both lines get this bad...
Not good but am glad not the only area experiencing the same thing. Called tech support for an update and the guy said the fix was finished and everything should be fine. Put me on hold when I started laughing then called dropped. Couldn't help but laugh because i was looking at this:

So apparently, for now, this is what it looks like when everything is working fine in our area now. Granted, I'm sure it was just an incompetent tech. Either way, this exhaustion is getting to be too much. Can't wait for MediaCom to get here and replace everything. Apparently the cable lines here have been here for over 25 years and the line outside isn't supposed to be strung through the air, but in the ground now. So they have to replace them before we can get their internet service.
Hope you have better luck with Mediacom. We had them for a while at a different address and we were not impressed. Same type of issue's although speed never got to this ridiculously slow. If I had to choose between the two I think I'd pick Mediacom though. Never so slow that a youtube video wouldn't stream but most evenings after 6 PM I can just forget about streaming video on Centurylink.
Right. Have spoke to several people in town with MediaCom, their ping stay consistan 24/7 but their downloads do drop a bit during certain times of day. Like for their 15Mb service, download speed will drop down to 8-9Mb, which in all honesty, I'd be fine with as long as the ping doesnt go nuts.
