What's that mean?<br><br>Most are 1080i because it was cheaper to implement.  And I would argue 'most are 1080i'.  It's about a 50/50 split.  Disney/ESPN/ABC/FOX/A&E/HIST are 720P.  CBS and NBC are 1080i.<br><br>As for the bandwidth issue you can do a few things...go all IP/unicast and/or move to MPEG4. Easily compressed duplicate frames.<br><br>No, the channels use the format(s) they do for ease of handling mixed content. A movie channel, etc. could use 1080p24 if they weren't going to show ANY video-based content... and it was more widely supported in customer boxes.]]></description>

(Other than it initially being more "CRT-friendly.")]]></description>
