[IA] Mediacom Installer damages personal property

My daughter had her service switched to a new location on Xmas eve day with Mediacom. The installer was walking throughout the home and my future son inlaw saw that he had broke a family heirloom a desk. My son inlaw came out and said to me and my daughter, as I was there too, that he broke my daughters desk.
My daughter waited to see if he would tell us and he did not.
She then went looking for him and noticed that he must have used their personal bathroom off the master bedroom and did a number 2 that had a lingering SMELL.
Not very nice, he could have asked to use the toilet and there are 3 bathrooms in the home.

When she confronted him about the desk he said he was sorry and did not do it intentionally. I then said well Mediacom will take care of it I'm sure they have insurance for this type of thing.
He then said NO don't call them and proceeded to give my daughter his phone number and to call it the next day. My daughter did and could not get a hold of him. After several days she did get a hold of him and he said his insurance agent must be out of town and he would get back to her. He never did............

I called Mediacom and found out they are contracted installers that came out.

Now they only want to give her $100 for the desk......she is asking a mere $200 and this desk is a sold wood not a Bush or Sauder particle board desk.
They are saying that she can get a desk for $100...BALONEY.

Medicom is not being very helpful either. That worker was also complaining he had 12 installs that day and wanted to get home to his family so my daughter said just forget about the cable install in her dining area......She was being nice to him and then this is what happens. Gosh he even said to us that he wished he could get IMON cable in his area....as my daughter already had an IMON cable going up to the house she bought. It seemed strange a Mediacom employee would say that....so we figured he must of been a contracted person with another company. Im writing because this Jeff guy that is now writing my daughter from a Gmail account does not seem to be an official person or manager and is saying he can get a desk for $100 online. LOL He is obviously upsetting to our family and we feel we are being very reasonable asking for a mere 200 BUCKS. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

The fact that he didn't tell you he damaged something speaks volumes about the type of tech he is. Deal with Mediacom directly. The proper procedure is to inform the customer and then his supervisor. I try my best not to damage someone's property and so far I did a pretty good job. I only damaged something once and the first person I told was the customer.

Mediacom is usually pretty good when it comes to taking care of stuff like this as long as you deal with the right people.

PS Also I only used customer's bathroom once. To wash my hands. There are gas stations all around so there is no reason to do #2 in someone's house. It however made me LOL.

Did you move your furniture out of the way for the tech?

90% of the people I installed for where semi to full blown hoarders who never moved their "precious" shit out of the way.

I broke said shit all the time, and it was ALWAYS a family heirloom.

A grand total of one customer moved his furniture completely out of the way.

Thanks for your response guys. I finally got a resolution.
Calling Mediacom numerous times and finally coming to my wits end....and telling them if I don't have resolution I TODAY I will take legal action.
Seems the tech was a contractor and did NOT tell management what he had did. From my understanding he has been let go.
The contractor offered my daughter $100 for a broken solid wood desk and she was asking for $200.00 I had to write this contractor and after doing so got resolution. The desk can not be purchased for $200 and I told my daughter she needed to ask for more as now all she is going to get is a bush or sauder desk. I asked Mediacom to give her some free cable or upgrade her slow internet speeds for free for a length of time but it seems they will not do that.

The desk was a family heirloom and made of solid wood construction. The one I found that was comparable was $599.00
Needless to say I am not to happy he broke my desk that I passed on to my daughter and then my daughter only requested $200.

Thanks however for your feedback. I do feel Mediacom should show a gesture of kindness her way and give her a service upgrade for free for a length of time to cover her loss.

DataRiker ...The Installer was running all over the home and never asked about the furniture. When we found out my daughter said to him if he needs furniture moved then please ask and we will move it.

And this desk was a heirloom....A solid wood desk. It was mine when I was younger and I passed it on to my daughter...Before I had it it was my mothers. Anyway from what I have been told the installer has been let go as he never told his supervisor what he did.

My daughter should have requested way more for the desk because all the Junk desks out there now are Bush and Sauder particle board desks...The only one I have found so far that is comparable is a $599.00 one and that even has a veneer top. I asked Mediacom if they could give her some cable or internet upgrade but it does not look like that is going to happen. The younger generation just doesnt understand what quality wood furniture costs as everything is junk these days that are out there.
