Tomorrow night into Thursday looks craptacular, with snow and sleet. Thursday morning commute may be rough. |

Your not alone. The same thing is predicted for downstate. You get snow we get water in the basements. You get snow. we get rain, snow and ice. The farmers downstate need water as much as they do in other parts of the state,
I did hear a market report that was mixed. The sale of cattle was down and the price would increase at the grocery store. Hogs are high and chickens are stable, we won't see much difference in the stores. If cattle sells too low, local ranchers won't buy large herds to raise and sell, but they might buy a proven bull, or they might buy a steer for the family. |

Yeah, now it's turned into more of an all-day-Thursday event rather than just tonight and tomorrow morning. Ugh. |

Trying to make it back from Hartford tomorrow morning and was thrilled to see this. I was supposed to be flying out on Friday night, but they are expecting blizzard conditions here come Friday night.
It doesn't look to be THAT bad in Chicago. But the way O'Hare is, if someone spits on the runway it's FUBAR. |

Just the 1 1/2 inches we got the other day totally hosed everything around here. You'd think we lived in Florida and got a freak snow. WTF happened to everyone? |

Just for fun, pull up a google map and turn on the traffic layer. Looks like a plate of spaghetti with all the yellow and red lines going all over.... What a disaster. |

Roads were pretty decent when I drove home around 5:00 yesterday. We didn't get a whole lot of snow in Naperville, but this morning, my boss (who lives in Rolling Meadows) was complaining about his two-hour drive home yesterday and all the wet snow he had to shovel. |

I believe anyone South of I-88 didn't get a whole lot of snow. I work in Lake County and I though it would never stop snowing. Commute was a bear as everyone was driving 10 miles/hr. |

We got maybe an inch. It was mostly rain/sleet. Roads out here were in good shape this morning. Still "worked" from home today though. |

We had several inches of the wettest snow I can remember. It was piled-on slush. My neighbor gave up trying to use his snowblower. It was too heavy to propel and clogged. Shovelling was a bear since it was nearly too heavy to lift safely. Pushing worked better, but in a large part it was inches of slush that would not drain away.
This morning the melted snow had frozen in clumps and sheets. |

Sure does.
This is one area where I differ with Skilling's philosophy. I understand the desire to give the public advance notice, but a week out, giving an estimate of 6-8" based solely on numerical models is not exactly responsible. Half of the public will freak out, saying ZOMG SNOW MUST RAID STORES, while the other half will say "meh, overhyped, we'll get a dusting." As with most things, the truth lies somewhere in the middle, and the NWS is being much more moderate in the hazardous weather outlook they issued this morning.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY.
A SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM IS SHAPING UP TO AFFECT MUCH OF THE MIDWEST THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY. AT THIS TIME...IT APPEARS THAT A PERIOD OF ACCUMULATING SNOW IS LIKELY THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING...BEFORE CHANGING TO A PERIOD OF FREEZING DRIZZLE... OCCASIONALLY MIXING WITH SOME LIGHT SNOW...LATE THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY. THE FORECAST GUIDANCE IS CONVERGING ON TO A SOLUTION THAT WOULD SUGGEST AS MUCH AS 4 TO 5 INCHES OF TOTAL SNOWFALL FOR THE ROCKFORD AREA...TAPERING OFF TO AROUND 2 INCHES OVER NORTHWESTERN INDIANA. A STRIPE OF 3 TO 4 INCHES OF SNOW IS POSSIBLE FROM CHICAGO TO PONTIAC.
SINCE...THE STORM SYSTEM IS STILL MORE THAN 2 DAYS AWAY...EXACT DETAILS OF THE FORECAST MAY CHANGE WITH RESPECT TO THE TIMING... TRACK AND INTENSITY AS IT APPROACHES THE AREA. HOWEVER...PERSONS ACROSS NORTHERN ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR WINTRY PRECIPITATION AND TRAVEL IMPACTS FROM THIS WINTER STORM.

Yeah. I don't really put much stock in forcasts more than 48 hours out. If they're still saying the same thing at 9pm tomorrow I'll take heed. Sure it will change a few times in the next 36-48 hours though. |

Likewise. I think people around here just worship Skilling because he's a personable guy, and he's a public figure (who has somehow cajoled or coerced his news director into giving him an entire 7 minute segment to talk about the weather some nights... WTF is that?) |

I heard at one time, that they look at three different models and basically pick one of the three. Don't know if it's true but that's what some weather guy said on the radio one day. Don't remember who it was. |

We got just little over 2 inches, but there was at least 5 on my driveway because of the blowing and drifting. This stuff was easy to shovel not like the heavy wet snow the last time around. |
