Hi, I've a friend with an older iMac (Intel) that has 10.5.8 installed. Some newer versions of software he wants to install call for 10.6.8. I have the disk, but want to know if the upgrade can be carried out without losing any of his data. As far as I know he has no time machine and doesn't backup his files regularly.

reply to mhhack Back up first. While most upgrades go off without a hitch, you don't want to chance upgrading without backing up. BSOD, GSOD, anything can happen. Using a USB drive with freeware like Superduper would be the best solution.
