Other Price-Related factors could include :
Do you have to pay multiple months ahead to GET the price ? Is there a Monthly USAGE Cap ? Cost per GB if exceed the cap ? (aka UBB) Is there a limit to the excess charge ? Can you CHOOSE a lower priced plan with a cap, if you DO NOT NEED Unlimited Usage ? Is there a FREE USAGE period during OFF-PEAK hours, and if yes, then what is the period ? What is the Cost to Install/Setup/Activate ? [DSL] Is a DRY LOOP included or not ? (if you need one) Whose MODEMS can we use, and which makes/models ?
(Those all still relate to price, but are factors not considered by many folks.)
Next, Customer Service - Describe it :
Politeness Competence Wait Times Promptness of Response/Resolution Can I talk to a Supervisor RIGHT NOW if I ask ? Through how many methods can it be obtained ?
Then, there is Performance :
Is the speed generally close to what was advertised ? Is the speed reduced during the peak period (officially and/or just by congestion) Are any types of data blocked and/or throttled ? [Cable] Is there any NNC ? (Neighbourhood NODE Congestion) [Cable] Is there any POI Congestion ? Online Gaming - Ping Latency & Jitter - thanks Teddy Boom VoIP - Ping Latency & Jitter [The locations of the ISP's servers & choices of peering partners would affect those last two.]
And most recently, in the Security category :
What sort of user LOGS are kept, and for how long ?
Those were all from just one coffee - Feel free to mention any other factors which come to mind.

| said by inotherwords :in other words, this thread is to show that Ebox's new pricing blows Teksavvy's outta the water. Well, I dunno about blowing them out of the water, but certainly firing one across their bow.

TEKSAVVY ---------------------------------------------- High Speed DSL 25 Up to 25 Mbps Down / 10 Mbps Up Unlimited Usage between 2am and 8am Dry Loop Band B $9.10 / month Sagemcom F@ST 2864 $8.00 / month 52.99/Month w/ 300G CAP
70.09 9.11 HST 79.20 Total per month all in
High Speed DSL 25 - Start-Up Fee $95.00 Dry DSL Activation - Residential $19.99 114.99 14.95 HST 129.94 Total install all in
209.14 due upon order (install plus 1st month) ----------------------------------------------
Electronic Box ---------------------------------------------- SpeedLine Extreme 25 Up to 25 Mbps Down / 10 Mbps Up Unlimited Usage between 2am and 12noon Dry Loop Band B FREE / month Sagemcom F@ST 2864 $10.00 / month 55.95/Month w/ 500G CAP
65.99 8.58 HST 74.57 Total per month all in
High Speed DSL 25 - Start-Up Fee $49.95 Dry DSL Activation - Residential $0.00 49.95 6.49 HST 56.44 Total install all in
131.01 due upon order (install plus 1st month) ----------------------------------------------
So, one can save about $78 on the install, save about $5 a month, and get an extra 200GB per month usage and an extra 4 hours of unmetered every day. Noteworthy, for sure.

So on the 15/1 DSL, TSI 300GB, eBOX 250GB ? (no can get VDSL at MY place yet)

BH#$ELL must be giving THEM as good of a deal as to eBOX, yes ?

| reply to Davesnothere I've been holding my breath waiting for TPIA announcements in Hamilton for ages. I'm all purple in the face.
Start Communications is here. Now. If Ebox has an announcement to make, I'd love to hear it. Seeing as how TSI is Waffle City in Cogecoland.

BHell must be giving THEM as good of a deal as to eBOX, yes ? I bet Ebox's margins are pretty thin with those prices.
Either that, or they know something about the capacity decision that we don't.
Just sayin'.

I am only speculating there, but if eBOX really DID announce that, it could be another niche for THEM (especially in QC), and the Ontario AGG POI Cogeco TPIA scene could quickly become just among START & eBOX.

Teddy Boomk kudos Received join:2007-01-29 Toronto, ON kudos:5 | reply to Davesnothere Great summary of what is worth thinking about. One more factor you didn't include though, gaming performance (or you could call it connection quality). | For all your ebox Calculations your forgetting they charge $20 dollars extra if u bring your own modem. So its 69.95 for activation to byom -- Every time Someone leaves Sympatico an Angel gets its wings.
