Using Febe or just manually making a copy of that profile folder is the easiest way to keep all your customized settings,bookmarks,etc.

To me Febe is a must have extension,if your existing profile gets corrupted,it's as easy as creating a new profile and restoring a backup to that new directory.

You're up and running in minutes. :)

If you want an easy method that takes a few seconds use Febe.......just create a full profile backup and you've got everything you need.

I also keep a backup of the profile folders but this is just so simple.

I create a Febe backup everyday after updating my extensions. :)

I also have been using this for a long time. Works perfectly in Windows 8. My standard procedure is to use this to back up my bookmarks and settings before I uninstall to install new beta versions of Firefox (or standard versions). I do not install new versions of Firefox over the top of old versions.

I faithfully use Revo Uninstaller Pro to install all of my programs with as well as Firefox and then I uninstall using the same program before I install a new version of Firefox. Mozilla Backup restores everything perfectly for me each and every time.

For a Windows Vista/7/8 system, the default location of your profile directory should be

C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Where xxx = your Windows profile name.

If you look at picture #1, I have a screen shot of that location. There you can see my actual profile name, which is "7v45uhvb.default".

If I go into that folder, I see what is in Picture #2.

I can then create a folder somewhere on my computer (I used my desktop), and I called it "Firefox Backup". I then copied the contents of my profile directory to my new folder on my desktop. This is shown in picture #3.

If at that point you then remove Firefox, which may also remove your current profile (if you select that in the uninstall options), you can start over with a clean install.

Then, once Firefox is re-installed, and you run it, it will create a new profile. The path will be the same as I have, but the profile name, the "7v45uhvb.default" will be something different.

Just go into that folder (you may want to save those files too, just in case you ever want to go back to a "default" profile), delete everything, and then copy the files from your backup.

The actual name of the profile folder does not matter, its the contents inside that do. Well, it matters from Firefox's standpoint, as far as where the profile is located. All you really care about is the files contained at that point.

So, once Firefox is installed, and you run it the first time (to create the default profile), exit Firefox, and then delete everything in that folder. Then, copy the contents of your folder into that location.

Because when FF is reinstalled, then it will re-create that default folder under the profile folder with a new random name...

I removed that image from the main post if that causes a security concern...Thx for the heads up.
