vpn for country change

Hello.I have been trying to use several vpns because in my country(Greece)bookmakers are,by recent law, prohibited.Still bookmakers seem to recognise location and refuse access. One even dislpays his homepage in the Greek language before I log in!How is that possible?I have even deactivated geolocation.Any suggestions? Thanks

Ignoring the legal question about what you're trying to do, please be aware that VPN has everything to do
with secure communications over an insecure medium, and nothing else.

That being said, a) what is your IP address showing up as, and have you checked, and b) have you confirmed
your "bookmaking" traffic is going thru the VPN tunnel?

If you are looking to hide your IP, look into a proxy service or TOR.

Re: vpn for country change

Thank you for your answer.
A)my ip address is the vpn's I have checked
B)I was under the impression that when I connect to the vpn server all traffic goes through it

There is no difference with proxies

a) You're confirming your IP address with a website like whatismyip.com?

b) best way to confirm is to use a program like wireshark... are all packets going out encrypted to the VPN or
are some packets "leaking."

There are a few ways it could be possible:

1. HTTP Cookies.
2. Super Cookies i.e. Flash LSOs
3. Web browser settings, specifically the language setting.

If you use firefox, try changing the language in the preferences.

POSSIBLY you're using a VPN provider that this URL recognizes as coming from a IP "block" of a VPN provider.
Problem here is you're playing blindfolded darts as you do not have access to the other end to determine exactly
what is happening, and you could speculate till the cows come home.

Sometimes things are just simple.
It was the language in the preferences.
Yet,it was an opportunity for me to learn a few things.
I would like to thank you outhouseuser and hellfire for your time and effort.
P.S:Greek State is really the worst of all developped countries and its laws are often unfair and absurd.
