Re: [Hockey] Official 2013 Toronto Maple Leafs ThreadJust watching the news: All NHL teams (except the Leafs) are having major promotions to get the fans back. Example are 50% off merchandise, all you can eat food, reduced ticket pricing, etc, this is true to even traditional strong hockey towns (except the Leafs).
So what are the Leafs doing, exactly? Well, just let's say, why buy a cow when the milk is free.
Personally, I think the team is being selfish. Yes, they'll have 19,000+ there opening day and for the next 24 games...but the fans really deserve something.
Do something, Toronto...I know management reads this thread. Get off your ass and do something for your fans. |

Why?If the sheeple sell out the ACC each and every game, why do a promotion? |

Good one guys. Top team in making money and top (from bottom) in NHL ranking. By the way anybody been to their practice sessions? at MasterCard centre? |

Komi was unlucky to join Leafs...goalies, D-man, forwards and Fighters...the list is too long. Remember Larry Murphy? Hall of Famer AFTER he got booed out of Toronto. |

The one guy on TSN said the Leafs were offering free, all you can drink water, from any of the water fountains in the ACC. I thought that pretty much summed it up. |

Exactly. How many season ticket license holders (game tickets extra!) have cancelled to shorten the 8+ years waiting list? That's the message that Leaf management will pay attention to. |

Until and unless the fans do something to hurt the MLSE bottom line, they'll do exactly SFA. But that leads me to suggest this: During every home game the Leafs fans attending the ACC purchase nothing not a single t-shirt, not a crumb of food. That will get their attention because while they have the ticket money, that's basically "dead money" that's already counted on the books. It's the in game sales that are the gravy that MLSE slurps down. NefCanuck |

sadly, that won't hurt MLSE that much...that will hurt the "little guys", who pay to sell their wares at the events...many of those places also employ many people who rely on that income. |

That picture in the article is perfectly representative of Matthew Lombardi's playing style.
That's $3.5 million off the books. |

yea, just saw that...not getting much, but not giving much away either...he didn't work out, but likely worth a gamble (although the 3.5 million seems steep for him). |

Its coming. At free practice today free coffee, popcorn, and scarf. Then there were few free tickets. While I was taking pictures the guy on right side caught the tea shirt and free tickets wrapped inside for Raptors game. At the end they announced there will be more free practice. There will be free tickets to season ticket holders. Then there will be free tickets for few people wearing blue and white. Not sure how many tickets. |

Free Raptors tickets don't cost them a dime...considering the arena is likely quite empty anyway, their true hope is you will enjoy yourself and purchase tickets later...regarding the free swag, did it have any sponsor names on it??...if so, it was likely given to them for free to hand out to patrons. |

The real Leafs showed up. Like The Dion. Play 53-55 minutes and lose the game. May be. |

Well, didn't lose that one, but they were clearly out of gas near the end.
One thing I didn't like was the number of times the Leafs turned away from finishing hits. Only Kadri and Komarov seemed to want to hit anyone. They have to hit. |

The AHL guys certainly had more jump than the NHL guys. And who is this Kostka kid? He played top 2 minutes and didn't look out of place at all. |

This game really went to show what not having a full training camp and pre-season does on player performance. It looked like a mix of people who were kinda in shape, and a group of people who forgot some basics almost... Still, Leafs won Hopefully they do some intense drills somewhere in between this packed schedule though, and not let the games be those "workouts" |

not bad...i like the term, and the LNTC isn't too bad...the money might be a bit high, but if we can get that line going well (or bring in other top players to play with him), it will likely be good. |
