2001 Mercury Villager shudder in front end.

Yesterday I started getting a strong shudder in the front end and the steering wheel would jerk to the right. It would come and go. Very scary. I was heading to my friends house and when I got there we jacked up the entire front and put it on axle stands and inspected what we could. Couldn't find anything obvious except for a ripped CV joint boot. We even started it up and ran it at about 60mph. Still couldn't find anything. I had to try to drive it home (60 mile trek). I made it! One thing that I did notice is that when it would happen, I would goose the accelerator and it would stop the shudder. Another thing is that when I would turn I would get one loud clunk. Probable bad CV joint??

I'd say a bad CV joint, or wheel bearing.

CV Joint is very likely, also take a look at the engine/cradle mounts for being loose or a missing bolt.

I agree with the bad CV joint. When the boots get ripped they leak their grease, that grease is crucial for the joint.
