2 edits | [Speed] RCN Astoria NY Speeds bad past 5pm Hello everyone . For the past month my rcn has been really bad . For some reason after 5pm my speed goes from 50 mbps to about 1 3mbps . I called RNC many times and they always say they do not see a issue with the line .

1 edit | I have been having the same problem over a month too. Astoria NY too.
I never had this problems when I had the 25 mbps tier. All my speed problems started when I upgraded to 50mbps/6mbps at the end of November last year.

RCN came to my house today the guy they sent laughed that i was getting such low speeds . he did the test at my house at 2mbps woot |

| He told me that he could not belive i am getting 1mbps , he laughed . That he would summit i mac address for testing . Did not een try to swap my modem or anything . I am going to order time warner today |

It just upsets me that they wont give a answer and just keep billing me for 50 mbps , my cell phone is faster then my cable modem |

I had a bad experience when they came to swap the Moca Adapter. The Tech didn't have a clue that he was supposed to replace the moca adapter. And Whenever I call customer service they always say that it seems that all is working well from their end.
I had my VOD problem resolved because of RCNCARES.
I did another test tonight and I got this:
Max Download Speed: 100Mbps
Max Upload Speed: 3427.07Mbps

Return Frequency: 30700000
Upstream Limit: 6300000

This is only a download speed, but I got this weird result. I wish I had those speeds and not this DSL phone line speeds.
I also noticed that any time that I go to rn.com, it always loads the DC rcn site, and not the NY rcn site.
My office has Time warner. The internet browser in the office always opens the NY RCN site.
This speeds are super slow. I can't use Netflix or Hulu plus on my apple tv. Even the economist app on my iPhone is taking for ever to download the audio part.
I wouldn't mind at least getting 20mbps download, but 2 mbps download speeds are not acceptable.
I hope RCN could fix this problem soon. |

i feel they not even trying , make sure you call up and dispute the bill they giving me a hard time . I am paying for 50 and get 1-5 lol |

I spoke with you earlier on chat and have received word from the local engineer.
The entire area of Astoria is affected being affected. They are working for a resolution
by next Wednesday, January 16th. |

I have been having the same issues near Astoria park. I have had the top tier plan for over a year and never had an issue until well after the Hurricane. The past month has been horrible, buffing on youtube videos is not fun. . . Its upsetting . . especially when you pay the price that we pay.

| somebody emailed me from RCN and said they upgraded the area thursday morning and should be better anyone try |

On the 25/2 package - I've noticed very slow peak speeds this month as well in Astoria, Queens. Stange thing is that it's been only happening in the last couple weeks or so. Before then, rock solid 25/2 on my DOCSIS 3 modem. I'm getting the blue light on the modem, so I know it's bonding the channels. My guess would be is that they're performing some sort of maintenance and during peak hours the channels are being saturated. My latency during gaming is unplayable: 500ms - 3000ms. |
