 | Relatively Worthless We tried Hulu Plus for a few months. We dumped it for lack of content.

 | It wasn't just the content but the commercials. When they first started the commercials were an annoyance but somewhat acceptable, but as they progressed, so did the length and frequency of the commercials.
No thanks. I'll stick with Netflix. |

It was a year ago last summer, so close to 18 months ago, I had H+. IIRC, there'd be a single short advert at the beginning of half-hour shows, and another short advert mid-way. I found that acceptable.

 | I dunno, I haven't used it in about 6 months, but the initial 15 second advert progressed to 30 seconds then I believe 1 minute, depending on the show. They also had started inserting adverts into the middle of certain shows.
We were initially trying it on a free month and at the time decided to keep it for a while since, while we DVR many shows, at the time we only had 2 tuners to record on and ended up with conflicts. So we would use Hulu to catch episodes we didn't record.
Now that we have the 5 tuner Directv box(plus another DVR networked together), we have plenty of recording capability now.
If there's something on a channel which we don't get, we simply wait for it to hit Netflix. |

I only use hulu+ to watch 5 shows I can't always keep up with. -- It's NOT Ni-kon It's NE-KON!

tcopePremium join:2003-05-07 Sandy, UT kudos:2 | reply to jseymour About the same. Hulu commercials are getting longer and longer. Pay for Hulu Plus and you are _still_ fed commercials but they appears to be shorter (around 30 seconds).
Personally I'd never pay for Hulu Plus as if I'm paying for shows that have already been on TV I see no reason to watch commercials.
Hulu Plus competes with DVRs. Recording a show to watch later is basically free. I agree that Hulu is shooting themselves in the foot. But the Motion Picture Industry has a history of this and being _way_ out of touch with reality. |

 | reply to Subaru Broadcast TV and most cable shows have 20 minutes of ads per hour. |

 | reply to jseymour Same thing for me -- content is minimal and never seems to ever increase, as they seem to have to shuffle shows in and out. I am pretty sure this was the content owners request, as it's not that hard to keep adding hard disks to an array to get more content to your customers...paying customers.
The commercials were ok in the beginning...a few years ago, but now the frequency and length of the commercials they display is annoying, and I wonder why I am even paying the $7.99 or whatever.
I cancelled Hulu Plus about two weeks ago and took their "Please stay for another month for FREE" plea - I will still cancel, as I already made the decision and haven't even used it since I hit the "Cancel" button that night.
Tip to Subscribers based businesses - when I make the decision to hit the "Cancel" button, my mind is already set that your service isn't usable to me and I will likely use it once or twice more, or possibly never again, based on my feelings.
I know that the owners of Hula...as insane as it may sound, DO NOT want Hulu to succeed -- so there you have it Comcast/Fox/Disney-ABC......I won't use your Hulu or pay for a monthly TV subscription, so I guess you lost again. |

| reply to jseymour What's worse about Hulu Plus is that it doesn't even have as much content as Hulu (plain). Want to watch The Simpsons using Hulu Plus on your TV? Well you can't. You can watch the free Hulu version on your PC though.
It's stupidity like this that will kill the service.
When Comcast's acquisition conditions expire, I suspect they'll pull NBC/Universal programs off Hulu (at only put them on StreamPix) at which point Hulu will die. -- The Comcast Disney Avatar has been retired. |

I don't get it. If we DVR a show, we skip the commercials entirely. They could have us for the commercials, plus get $8/mo. from us. Makes no sense to me.

 | reply to Chuck_IV Yeah, and Hulu always said "Brought to you with limited commercials", which is one or two about every 10 minutes. I'd hate to see if the commercials weren't limited.
And most of the commercials either get stuck in the middle or only play half way and then another commercial starts. |

 | reply to jseymour Never had hulu plus, but I remember a long time ago figuring out how to block the ads without blocking the video itself.
You got a black screen for 5s or so instead of an ad :P. You basically determined the addr of the ad server, and put in in your hosts file pointing to localhost.
Worked wonders on TVLand online streaming also. |
