[INTERNET] Cogeco Service Upgrade Email

Got a email this morning from cogeco stating that starting Feb 1st my upload speed will be doubled to 2 and a 10GB bandwidth upgrade as well. I am very glad for the upload speed increase even if the bandwidth is laugh worthy.

I was wondering if anyone with an ultimate package was got the same email and if so has your upload speed been increased from 2 to ?

I currently run a live stream and am based in Peterborough Ontario, the lack of 4Mbps upload is really disappointing.

I had heard something about Ultimate 30 becoming Ultimate 40, but I haven't heard anything from anyone confirming that.

I haven't heard anything about Ultimate 30 being touched, but then again, i don't know anyone who is on it.

My Fiancee told me our Exp 8 package is getting upgraded, so I'm definately happy with that, an extra 20GIG usage is a nice bonus

I got one to!
"Hold on! Your Internet service is about to start flying even higher:
Your upload speed will be increasing from 1 Mbps to 2 Mbps
Your data usage limit will be
increasing from 80 GB to 90 GB
On February 1st we will upgrade your High Speed Internet service – at your current rate."

Might explain why I saw 1.9Mbps when I ordered the Windows 8 Digital download.

Any idea if business plans will see the bump as well? I'm on Business Standard and would love the extra upload speed.

According to the information I have, upload speed moving from 1 mbps to 2 mbps on Business Standard.

There is no planned change to Ultimate 30.

Are you able to summarize the various changes here? I haven't seen an email, but I'd be curious to know what's changing in case that might motivate me to upgrade (or downgrade) my package.

There are upgrades to the business plans coming, but I don't have all the information for those, just bits and pieces. Residential, however, I have the complete list.

Sorry about that.

K00L !

But no changes to ULT 30 ?

Also, I would suggest that Turbo 20 needs perhaps 120GB, to distinguish it better from Turbo 14.

And to which I alluded and lamented in my linked post, Please PLEASE PLEASE post the upload speeds on the Cogeco website this time around.

No wonder I didn't get an email. Talk about getting screwed. The least Cogeco could do is bump 175GB to 200GB. What a joke.

HamCogeco

@cgocable.net

I'm also on Ult 30 and feel shafted. I'm sure we will still get the same rate increase, even though we get no benefit whatsoever from these 'upgrades'. Cogeco will never change.

Given that Turbo 14 - my current internet plan - showed up as unavailable in my area when I was checking for the availability of Turbo 20, I think that Turbo 14 may not be around much longer.

Same here, it only shows Turbo 20 but I am on Turbo 14.

Does the 2mbps upload will affect neighborhood node congestion ?

If not, im switching to business plan docsis 2.0 with no caps

Upload speed is steady around 1.06Mbps but still I'm a month to early. lol
Would be nice to send out pictures and videos and not wait so much.

Yeah, it seems like Ult 30 is the only plan that gets no upgrade. I would have expected it to move to 40, like it is in Quebec, or at least a data transfer bump to 200gigs.

Kinda disappointing

That's odd, my one Cogeco email address got the upgrade email around 10am yesterday and my other one brought it down at 11:50pm but the time stamp was 10:30am.
Inbox said 1 unread message (the upgrade letter) and next time I loaded my email client it was gone and there was no traces of that upgrade letter. Could it be a little file system glitch and it lost the data, or maybe Thunderbird deleted it and thought it was spam?

Also will the internet upgrade affect the digital phone service?

WOW, that is really strange. I found the upgrade letter that came down last night but the date stamp said 07/01/2013. Wonder why I didn't get that email on January 7th when I did get it on the 8th. Glad to know my inbox database is not corrupted after all.

My wife and I have 5 email addresses and got e-mails to 4 of them, but not to the primary address. The time stamp on both is 07 Jan 2013, 10:02:03 -0500. They must have been in a massive queue, since they didn't leave Cogeco until 09 Jan, 05:42:30. Here's part of my headers:

From: Cogeco Cable
Subject: Good news! Cogeco is upgrading your Internet service

=============

Of course, the big news is the doubling of the upload speed on the lower speed plans. This should help maintain a better ratio on bit torrents, at least. The 12.5% increase in monthly bandwidth on Turbo 14 is welcome, but not exactly generous considering my ratio of uploads to total usage was about 42% in the last 3 months. I'll have to watch my P2P ratios to ensure I don't actually end up with less download bandwidth.

I can usually stay within my limit, although I went a couple of GB over in November and just squeaked by in December. I'd jump to Turbo 20 if they didn't want to charge me $50 for a new modem.

At least this time Cogeco has notified their customers in advance. There has been no word by e-mail, snail mail or via the STB on recent changes to cable TV offerings.
