[MO] Modem Resets too often (SB5101U)

Timmeur posted : I am in the Columbia, MO area, and both before Christmas break (mid Dec) and after getting back, my modem will reset every so often after the internet not working for about a minute (its not a regular reset, it goes through regular reset lights, then when everything comes on, all lights but power will then go out for a few seconds, blink simultaneously, and then reconnect). Usually this happens while playing an online game (Dota 2), or during something like a Google hangout, but also sometimes surfing the web, opening several pages in short succession. Sometimes I can play a full hour and it won't happen, and other times it will happen two or 3 times in an hour span.

My Mom also has the same modem which I borrowed for a couple days when she didn't need it, and it seemed to work better for a second, but then had the same issue once or twice before I had to give it back. My mom doesn't use the internet enough for me to know if this happens at her place too.

I called Mediacom, and they said it was probably the modem because they didn't see anything on their end (I tried my mom's modem after I called them and the guy came out). They said because I owned my modem, that they couldn't update any firmware (sounds bs to me from reading a couple other posts) so they had someone come out.

I didn't have access to the utility closet at the time (live in an apt), so instead of turning down the signal, he put in a splitter. The downstream power level was too high (I think 9 dBmV where 7 should be the max) The splitter took it down to 3, but looking at it now, I see .9 dBmV. Upstream didn't change much (at 53.7 right now). This once again seemed to help a little, but now the modem is back to it's old antics.

Ok, now for code stuff. These are the logs from the modem during the reset:

2013-01-07 11:33:02	6-Notice	I401.0	TLV-11 - unrecognized OID
2013-01-07 11:33:01	3-Critical	D003.0	DHCP FAILED - Requested Info not supported.
2013-01-07 11:32:50	3-Critical	R002.0	No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out (US 2)
2013-01-07 11:32:46	4-Error	C216.0	DCC rejected parameter invalid for context
2013-01-07 11:32:44	6-Notice	I401.0	TLV-11 - unrecognized OID
1970-01-01 00:00:29	3-Critical	D003.0	DHCP FAILED - Requested Info not supported.
1970-01-01 00:00:07	6-Notice	M571.1	Ethernet link up - ready to pass packets
2013-01-07 11:32:04	6-Notice	M573.0	Modem Is Shutting Down and Rebooting...
2013-01-07 11:32:04	3-Critical	R004.0	Received Response to Broadcast Maintenance Request, But no Unicast Maintenance o
2013-01-07 11:31:32	3-Critical	R005.0	Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - T3 time-out
2013-01-07 11:31:21	4-Error	C401.0	DCC-ACK not received
2013-01-07 11:31:20	3-Critical	R005.0	Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - T3 time-out
2013-01-07 11:31:20	4-Error	C401.0	DCC-ACK not received
2013-01-07 11:31:18	3-Critical	R005.0	Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - T3 time-out

I read some places that this might be a DOCSIS 3.0 compatibility issue (my modem is 2.0).

Any help is welcome. I know this is long, I just appreciate when I'm diagnosing issues, that every detail is there in case there is the important something someone else overlooked. I also apologize if this is a repeated thread from authorityact, but my problem seemed slightly different, as my issue happens under lighter load of my internet (I have 20mbps speed, so there shouldn't be an issue of maxing bandwidth with games/ghangout).

Thanks
