[TWC] Motorola sb6121 or sb6141 for only TWC 20/2

Hi , I currently have 20/2 with TWC. I can't decide sb6121 or the sb6141. I'm fine with 20/2 maybe in the future I will go as far as 30/5 and im 100% sure i wont go higher than that. Do I really need a top of the line sb6141? Or the sb6121 will be just fine.I just want it to be stable connection. Thanks guys

First and foremost I would recommend you get a modem that's on TWC's "approved" list.

However, the only difference I know of between the SB6121 and the SB6141 is the 6121 has 4 downstream channels that can be bonded, whereas the 6141 has 8 downstream channels. Both have 4 upstream channels. So the only value-add of the SB6141 I see is the ability to have over 150Mbps download speed.

Both modems support twc . Thank you so much for the reply. Sb6121 will do the job then which I'm never going over 30mbps.

I would pick up the 6141 has the option for 8 bonded channels while the 21 can only do 4. Also Ebay is selling brand new 6141 for around 68-75 dollars shipped. Walmart sells the 6121 for 89 dollars. You are better off with the 6141.

Even if you don't want top speeds, the SB6142 isn't really more expensive and if there is congestion having more bonded channels will alleviate that. So there's no real reason to get a SB6121, but if you already have one it would be fine.

What way will a 8 bonded channel Help me with a 20mbps?? That's true pay 8-10 bucks more for the 6141 but the reviews of the 6121 is good hardly connection lost or freezes will the 6141 be the same ??

When 8 channel bonding is available it doubles your pipe.
Worth the 10 bucks IMHO.

It will only help if you suffer from congestion with 4 bonded channels. Think of it like adding lanes to a freeway. Even though you can still only travel the speed limit, if the 4 lanes on the 6121 freeway are going slower than the speed limit, getting the 4 extra lanes with the 6141 should enable you select a less crowded lane and get back to top speed. (I know it's not a perfect analogy).

Maybe if you live on the Mainland. In Hawaii though nothing makes any speed above 3/1 worth the money. (Of course, 3/1 doesn't exist as a choice ...it would be 3/364 or something like that). I've been doing a ton of downloading for the past 6 weeks to get programs on my new computer and I am using Windows Defender. Only ONCE have downloaded anything at more than 425KB/sec (VMWare Workstation) and I have 20/2 with a Surfboard 6141. Every night around 1AM, I download the latest Windows Defender definitions from Microsoft Malware Protection Center. The download speed is around 400KB/Sec and it takes about 3 minutes to download them. The only time I get a half way decent speed to download the definitions is at 3:30AM on Friday or Saturday night and then I might get as much as 1.2MB/sec.

So, if everything from Java to Flash Player to nVidia driver downloads to a variety of programs...nothing downloads better than 450KB/sec and anything from Europe (like antivirus programs, Opera browser) downloads at 75KB/sec (it took almost 2 hours to download GData Antivirus program and I tried repeatedly at different hours) why spend this money for 20/2 when I can't get better than 3/1? Oceanic just says I am downloading from "slow" servers. If that is true, then EVERY server out there is "slow" (except VMWare)!
