blu-ray is 40 Mbps. But it's also a different codec so not an easy apples to apples comparison.

It's not a different codec, just much lower compression.

No, it is a different codec - an even better one, actually.

Netflix uses Microsoft's VC-1 codec. which is about 1.5x more efficient than MPEG-2. Most Blu-rays use AVC/H.264 which is twice as efficient as MPEG-2.

So not only would the bitrate of this new Netflix "Super HD" pathetic if it was AVC/H.264, it's made even more pathetic by the fact that Netflix uses VC-1.

This still pales in comparison to what Blu-ray is doing, or when it comes to Internet video, what the adult industry is doing. Brazzers offers 1080p H.264 video at a bitrate of 12 Mbps.

"Super HD" my ass. This is marketing lingo at its worst.

Me. My TWC connection (not OpenConnect-enabled quite yet) has had zero issues using Netflix, ever.

They're already using H.264. A lot of the devices they target do not support VC-1 or have HW decoding of VC-1.

No one pays for porn. And most Brazzers movies are seen on free tube sites at 500 kbps streams

I am. Trust me it's MUCH harder to make a $ in porn today than it was 10 years ago.

Yes, harder, far from impossible. You said no one. That's a lie.

But I thought no one paid for porn... except it is not even close to that at all.
