Netflix Super HD/Open Connect

I was curious if Teksavvy was looking into this...

It's posted on the front page:

»Netflix Starts Offering 'Super HD' and 3D Streams

States that who are on their CDN will be getting this.

Cheers,

Oh yeah Super HD looks really nice on a 27" monitor. I'm on Rogers directly but apparently they're also part of the Open Connect network.

Netflix now offers Super HD streaming on the following devices:

Sony PlayStation 3
Apple TV with 1080p
Roku with 1080p
Nintendo Wii U
Windows 8
Blu-Ray Players and Smart TV's with existing Netflix 1080p support
More devices coming soon!

Does this mean no Windows 8 = no Super HD on PC???

We have Apple TV attached to our Panasonic LED TV and when you watch shows like Dexter it looks spectacular.

Isn't apple tv just the same as any other device like Boxee?

I believe so.

I'm installing Win 8 right now, so I can try this out

Cable in Kitchener.

The Windows 8 requirement is a joke for the PC playback.

edit: nevermind when I don't use unblock-us DNS it works. I guess no US Netflix in this new format

edit 2: some US VPN servers support it

Are you using Teksavvy's DNS servers?

Windows 8 is a polite way of saying "Windows" without have to deal with listing the previous versions.

If your on XP/Vista its a worthwhile upgrade.

I've used WD TV and didn't like it too much. I find the navigation and easy of use on Apple TV to be better. Also I prefer Apple tv because of Airplay. I can stream content to it from my iPhone, iPad, or Macbook- so it makes things easier.

Boxee/Boxee Box is different product than WDTV.

I don't understand this super HD. I thought they already had 1080p streaming.

And these names are getting annoying. HD, Full HD, Pure HD, Super HD, Ultra HD.

I guess I'll just call it Full Pure Super Ultra Deluxe HD.

I can't wait to hear what they'll call 4k/8k media.

It's a marketing name. It is 1080p but lower compression over their existing 1080p streams. Their existing 1080p streams used a ridiculous amount of compression.

After having both Boxee Box / WD TV and some other setups the WD firmware is completely god awful. So buggy it is pathetic. It is almost criminal that WD sells these devices with how bad they are.

AppleTV is only good if you've got other Apple devices and are into the whole iTunes ecosystem... Many are not...
