Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 vs. Nexus 7As the title of this thread states, Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 vs Nexus 7.... I am considering buying one of these two tablets as a gift for my cousin, and I am wondering which of these two is the better one to get, and why? Wanted to post in here and get some feedback from you guys. Thanks. |

I don't know anything about the Galaxy tab 2, but I do own a Nexus 7. I can compare it to an Ipad. And for flexibility, I like the Nexus 7. Being able to use a UBS OTG cable and hook up a memory stick or a USB hard drive is pretty damn nice. Without having to root.
I haven't found that much to dislike about it in the 4 or 5 months i have owned one. I use it more often then my Ipad. I think the only thing I disliked about it was that I had dropped it once. the case had popped open in one of the corners. I was able to press it closed, however. But since then, I tend to be a tad more cautious about dropping it. As it seems a tad more fragile then my Ipad, which I've dropped a few times. But other then that, I like my Nexus 7. |

Thanks for the input. I'm just disappointed that it doesn't have a rear camera also. |

Agreed, the rear camera is a bummer, but then again, I do have a smart phone. My wife had to jump on the smart phone band wagon and because she heard the word "free" we got Iphone 4. I really wanted a droid phone, but she wouldn't budge. She said "You want a droid phone, then get off your ass and get a job and pay for 2 droid phones". So we got Iphones. What's interesting is my wife isn't a "techie". But a couple years ago she wanted a Nook, so she got one. Then just a month ago, she decided she wanted a Nexus. Lucky her, she got the 32GB for the same price as I got my 16GB . She liked it so much, she decided our kids would get Nexus 7s for Christmas. The kids like them, but for what ever reason, they think their Ipod touchs [which are 3 years old] are better performers ten the nexus 7. I asked them how or why that is so, they say the Ipod has a better display and it's faster. I can't see it, so I write that off as lack of understanding what they have. And because of all the wifi devices, we had to upgrade our 6 year old router, the newer model can handle 20 wifi devices, and currently we are at about 17 [though I can't see how we are at 17]. |

Wanted to post in here and get some feedback from you guys. Thanks. Android has finally become a really good OS with Jelly Bean. I do not like these manufactures installing their custom touchwiz style interfaces within the OS. It just completely ruins the Android experience for me IMO. This is why I would never get a Nook, or a Kindle Fire. Once they start hacking up the OS it becomes absolute shit and not worth it... |

I cannot tell you which one is better, but I have the Nexus 7 and really like it. It's quick, responsive and great to use. I can say that after using a tablet made by ASUS, I still like Samsung devices better, for my GNex is still a better over all experience. Hard to compare the two, one being a tablet and the other a smart phone. |

I own a Nexus 7...I have used the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, so perhaps I am a bit prejudiced here but...
The Tab 2 IMHO is a disappointing effort for Samsung. About the only thing that it has going for it in a head-to-head comparison is the memory card slot...aside of that, the Nexus beats it substantially.
The Nexus has a much better IPS screen at higher resolution, a faster processor, and no small issue: Pure, unaltered Jellybean android versus ICS layered over with Samsung's "touchwiz" interface (not that touchwiz is all that terrible...but pure android is preferable).
Yes, the Tab 2 has a camera...it is not very good, and taking photos with a tablet...even a 7" tablet is too clunky for me to even consider. |

Well that is pretty much limited to those 2 being heavily company oriented/limited. Most of the others are much the same one to another, but for preinstalled stuff, but OS pretty much just Android. OS wise very little difference between the two in question. |

do not spend the money on samsung, i love my nexus. granted i own the nexus 10 32 gig as the 7 is to small for me personally. the only fault i have to give nexus is that there is no hdmi out or sd card slot. here is the review on the 10 » www.pcadvisor.co.uk/revi ··· tTab#top |

OS wise very little difference between the two in question. The problem is fragmentation. Because those companies put their custom interfaces into the OS it takes a lot longer to update to the latest version. That's if it ever happens at all. I bet there are a lot of devices still stuck on ICS, or Gingerbread because of that. |

Well it also in their misguided attempt to get people to upgrade CrApple is so good at.
If not found a really good used deal on a Used Asus 201 Transfomer I would not have upgraded... 101 among those stuck at ICS, but was upgraded from HC 3.x which was the tab only OS, ICS was developed from and then phones finally went past 2.3 to ICS 4.x
Also the 201 was a Tegra 3 processor vs Tegra 2
However the current 300/700's have no hardware enhancement Still same Tegra 3 and hardware.
201 was issued with ICS but upgraded to JB 4.1 but looking like it won't even get to 4.2
As with the 201 a hardware upgrade as well as OS, well OK, but OS alone and leaving the rest behind... no way I will root first, if OEM 4.2 doesn't come soon. |
