Nope true... but I have read too many negative reports on others (start, acanac, distributel etc...)

Start has nearly universally positive reviews to date...

No matter, I have an acceptable deal with Rogers.. funny I called last week (Thurs/Fri) and was told what I had was the best they could do. I called today and they gave me 80GB for nothing...

The Start package I would be interested in would give me 100GB allowance, the bandwidth is slightly less (would make no big difference) but the price is actually $5/month more + modem purchase. Not worth the switch... The lesser tier has a significant drop in speed.

Give it a week or two, their speeds will be changing to match the new Rogers speeds very shortly.

And don't forget the $3 price increase from Rogers ($2.25 after discount!), which makes the difference in monthly cost between them and Start $1.20. Though to be fair Start's pricing might change with the new speeds.

Rogers also has purchase or rental of the modem required.

Nice.... It does provide one with more choices if they are unhappy with their current provider.

Not sure if it was mentioned or not, but right now, Start doesn't have a way for cable users to check their usage, so they are not charging for overages on those packages.

Can't really bank on that being forever, but having unlimited on all the cable tiers right now is really nice.

I see start has changed their "speeds".. they look nice... in fact at 1st glance they seem to be the same as Rogers.

For $50 on Start I can get 35/3 with 250GB cap (plus cost of modem) so say $53/month (3/month assuming modem lasts 3 years)

For $52/month on Rogers I get 200 GB cap (this includes the modem rental)

Start looks like a decent option; but not worth the switch (for me)...

I've stuck around because I was previously living on my own and used the internet primarily for gaming, occasional downloads, etc. Even after my g/f moved in we were pushing close to the 80GB limit (she watches shows online to catch-up after work) but never went over.

Now with Apple TV, Netflix, streaming and the like I have no choice but to make the call to Rogers to move to Teksavvy. I can tell by the amount we're using each day that we're going to quickly blow the cap and I refuse to pay the amount Rogers wants for the higher bandwidth packages.

Besides the DNS issues as of late I have no complaints about the stability of my service for the last 7+ years. But the caps with the amount of streaming we are doing are totally unrealistic as is the pricing of their higher packages. I just have to get around to making the call because I know I'll have to go through retention, say no numerous times and then go through the sign-up process with Teksavvy but I'm left little in the way of other options at this point.

So from what I understand half the people here are not even on Rogers anymore? they why do you guys care? seriously this just does not make sense to me. How many of you are actually using more than 250GB a month anyway? I do live alone, but I run a web server and backup to a remote location and I'm only using 196ish... I only went over 200 once, and that was when I was seeding the backup. what is it that you just want? unlimited gigabit symmetric for $99.99? Everything is as I expected, you receive a service but don't want to pay what they charge for it or you want a better service but you don't want to pay more for it? am I not correct?

Look, if bandwidth is all you care about then use teksavvy but Rogers does do unlimited bandwidth, just for 100 more a month. Back when the caps were lower that was the price I had to pay. (50 then but the amount doesn't make too much of a difference)

But apparently my comment is the dumbest because I don't hate Rogers the way everyone else does. Now you also said I'm choosing what should be most valuable when I said speed, fine allow me to reword, bandwidth only controls price while speed shows up on everyday performance. If you cared about the service and only the service all you would see is speed, this is not Comcast no one will ban you from the network they will only increase your bill. So, to make absolutely clear, if you want something better please pay for it. If not please stop complaining and calling the company evil, you entered into the contract with them if you don't like it things can be adjusted.

1 - I am not sure I ever called the company evil, or stated I "hated" it. I have been on Rogers for as long as I can remember, but that does not mean one should pay more for a service they can get elsewhere for cheaper

2 - Quality of service is very important, which is why I ask "why are people staying if they are complaining". I figure there must be some reason why people are sticking to Rogers (esp. after they have done some level of comparison to other companies... maybe even tried them and stayed... or came back!)

3 - I am staying because Rogers just made me an offer I could not refuse. I am very happy with the level of service, but not the price. I now have a comparable price for what I need.

I hope I did not offend; I may have misinterpreted the spirit of your reply.

Read in another thread the other day that they do send letters to abusers, and do have procedures for deterring them.
