Re: [Hockey] Official 2013 Vancouver Canucks Thread

What a unpassionate team the Wild are..........looks like they're all Heatleys.

And I picked the whole Parise line in my pool, too.

The Sedins still don't look right.........something is wrong there.

Why do I get the feeling this contract will be their last. I can see the
Twins retiring early.

Schroeder gets his 1st and 2nd NHL goals.

Schneider plays great.

...and he'd still be in the minors if Hodgson was still around. IMO he's been the most consistant forward on the Nucks so far this season. Nice to see a couple go his way.

First Tanev's 1st goal now Schroeder's 1st & 2nd goals in one game.

I bet Schroeder didn't sleep a wink last night!

Only saw the highlites as we were watching my Rockets get bombed again.

But they both looked like nice goals........he deserves them the way he's been playing.

Good article on the Twins as Henrik is set to overtake his hero
Naslund's scoring record as a Canuck.

Re: [Hockey] Official 2013 Vancouver Canucks Thread

1-0 Canucks at the end of the 1st.

Nice of Luongo to talk to the rookie Wild goalie in the warm-up.

2-1 Canucks final.

Pretty boring game as usual with the Wild.

What a fiasco this is turning out to be getting Parise and Suter and not getting any offense.

Heatley no points in 9 games..............WTF do I keep picking this fucking loser every year in my pool?

Hmmm...

a) You're a glutton for punishment.
b) You've a poor memory of his past performance.
c) You aren't a Senators / Sharks / Wild fan.
d) all of the above.

I'll go with (d).

But seriously what happened to this guy.........he's playing with Parise and Koivu?

He should be racking up the pts.

I think it's a combination of two things:

His skills are starting to fade a bit and because he's not the fastest skater it's becoming apparent more quickly than if he was more than a one-trick pony (set him up and he shoots),

and

He's a one trick pony. If he's not being set up for a one-timer, he's not really all that much use. He's not a grinder to get the dirty goals close in, he's not going to get a breakaway, and he's not going to force a turnover in the offensive zone.

He's not going to get another contract like his current one. Six year contract and he's on his third team on that contract (Ottawa, San Jose, Minnesota). He's still making $7.5M a year, but he won't be after this contract is up at the end of next season. What's really startling is that he's only just had his 32nd birthday and he's been on the decline for at least the previous two seasons as well. He should be in his prime, but he's on the decline, big style.

Exceedingly few players are in their prime at 32. The average peak age for a high-end NHL player is 27 (Heatley's production peaked the season he turned 26), so having been on the decline for a few years is really expected. But it's been a much sharper decline than is typical.

Fair enough -- bad wording on my part....you said what I was trying to say. I wonder where he'll end up, and at what salary, after next season?
