It's a good thing they didnt trade Luongo just yet, hehe... Maybe Schneider is getting the "starting goalie" jitters... |

The fans, who had booed liberally as the score mounted, greeted Luongo like a long-lost son, roaring their approval from the moment he doffed his baseball cap and plopped the mask on the top of his head until he sprinted to the net, reaching a top-end speed rarely glimpsed before. How soon we forget, just a short while ago it was the other way around. This is a tough city to play hockey. |

Not a great Season opener for a couple of teams. The Montreal Canadiens did the torch thing and promptly lost to the Maple Leafs in a lack lustre game. The Los Angeles Kings handed out the Stanley Cup rings, passed the Cup around, shone the spotlight on the new banner in the Staples Center and then got slapped around by the Chicago Blackhawks. |

Trade Schneider and Luongo! It's only 1 game and the D-MEN sure didn't help either goalie. For some reason the Ducks own the Canucks here in B.C. Schneider should start tonight against the OILERS..........this could get interesting. |

On the way to the game I said to my lady, "I'm worried about Schneider. He didn't play well in Europe."
Little did I know.... :-(
My God....the 2nd Ducks goal....my grandmother could have stopped. Schneids looked very very nervous right from the opening faceoff.
Some things I noticed...
-Canucks sure miss those 5 starters out with injuries. -Defense did not look good. -The offence.....see above re injuries.
As for the Canucks' organization....wow...they did a hell of a good job welcoming the fans back.
Every seat had a $15 Canucks scarf draped over the back. We all got a free Budweiser. $1 hotdogs or nachos or pop 24 people picked out of the crowd got the jersey right off the Canucks player's back. Sweat, autograph and picture of the handshake The 50/50 draw was $147,000
Everything in the Canucks Store was 50% off. There are about 6 stores in the arena. The big one near our section had 3 jersies left at the end of the game. They had at least 300-400 when we looked before the game. As we walked out we passes 2 other stores and they only had a few left. I got one....it's a no player name Canucks official NHL products jersey for $70.
Two promo Canucks people would go all over the arena and pick out a row of seats. Everyone in that row got a jersey!!!
For those who didn't see it Sarah Ann McLachlan sang both national anthems
Other than the shit kicking by the Ducks it was a fun night.

Luongo to start against Oilersquote: VANCOUVER - Vancouver head coach Alain Vigneault announced that Roberto Luongo will get the start when the Canucks host the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday night
Is Vigneault fucking stupid or what? What kind of a lame brain move is that and what kind of message does that send Schneider? If Oilers light Luongo up,then what...............unreal? Time for a new coach. |

It's not 1 game............it's a number of idiotic moves he's made over the years that have created this problem.
When your number 1 goalie gets bombed, you stick him right back in net to give him some confidence!
What happens if Luongo gets yanked tonight?
He has no clue how to rotate these guys. |
|
|
Uhhhh... he's been an NHL coach for how long? ...and you've been one for...??? |

It's not completely unheard of in the NHL to alternate starters when you play back to back games (Detroit's been doing it for years). Secondly they still want to trade Luongo? He kind of needs to play so the other teams can see if he's got the goods or not.
Not really a canucks fan but I do consider Schneider untested. He's been a backup/relief for a few years now. He's had some brilliant moments. It's when you play all the time and the league starts to figure you out, that's when you show you're great. I don't think he's played enough to be there yet. We'll see. |

Off to the shootout. Edmonton up 1 after the first shooters.
Hemsky puts it past Lou as the 2nd shooter, gets the win for the Oilers. |

It seems they're following the same template,as years past.
Start off fast ,get a 2-0 lead then sit back and miss every chance to put the game away.
Let Luongo give up an easy goal late in a period, then come out and miss more chances and watch Luongo give up another easy goal..........cue the OT and SO.

3rd year in a row Lougongo has gone to a shoot out in his seasonal debut and lost. Consistency is the key to the game. |

Shouldn't good teams be able to win most games if their goaltender can keep it to 2 goals? You don't always need a Hasek, Brodeur, or a Roy... If you have a good team all you need is an Osgood |

They are saying Schneider starts against the Flames on Wed night. As I understand it Luongo was going to play last night anyways. Gillis said on many back to back games Schneider and Luongo will share the games. FaxCap |

That does sound like a sales pitch. I've changed my thinking in the last 2 days.............I think dealing Luongo now would benefit Schneider and get rid of the distraction. I still feel more confident in him than I do watching Luongo, regardless of the bad start he had............he's a better goalie. You have to hold your breath with Luongo on every shot, cause you know an easy goal is coming. |
