Photographer loses Nat. Geo contest on technicality

He broke the rules. He won the contest and 72 hours later was disqualified. He digitally removed a plastic bag.

Painful lesson but one that should have been known and not done in the first place.

While this seems to be a really minor technicality, still the rules are the rules.
I always read the rules of any contest I consider and as a result there are many I just don't bother with because I find something that bothers me in them. Most often is is something related to the ownership / future use of entries as related to the prize offered. Many seem to want full rights for all entries, even those which do not win a prize. I run from those because they are just looking for free publicity shots for their venue.

Rules are rules. After reading his story, I got the feeling he knew he broke them but somehow was looking for satisfaction in the win that was not.
