[Need Info] Looking for a way to backup harddrive

It looks like I'm going to have to reformat my SSD. The drive is my main OS drive with Win7 installed on it. Only it's stuck in an endless loop of "waiting to install updates please don't shut down the computer." I thought I had system restore turned on but I seem to be a noob at this and didn't have it on. A clean install and repair of the master boot record (had other issues with that) is the way to go.

What is the best way to go about backing up my data?
It would seem I could just copy and paste all the files / folders but it just seems like that would be a mess.

Thank you.

Best to back up your data to your storage drive. You're going to need to reinstall all of your software so your data is the only thing you need to back up.
