 | [Rant] TGI Fridays charges for water. I sampled my Margarita. I'm not much of a drinker so the taste was a little strong for me. I asked the waiter for some water. He went to the POS machine, swiped his card, and put in a charge for the water, then filled the water glasses and brought them. I told my friend: "He just charged us for water." My friend said: "No. They wouldn't do that."
We finished our meal, the waiter arrived with the bill. The waiter had the bill open and I could clearly see $37.+ when my friend asked: "You didn't charge us for the water, did you?" The waiter immediately closed the bill as he assured us that the water was free. Then he said: "Excuse me, I have the wrong bill here."
He didn't have the wrong bill because there was no one else in the entire restaurant.
He went to the POS machine, made the correction, deleting the charge for water, and came back with a bill for $34.+.
$4.39 for a draft beer. $9.39 for a small Margarita(mostly ice), and $1~1.50 for water!
Man, I really hate getting ripped off! |

LazManPremium join:2003-03-26 canada | Not that I agree, but I understand how some bean counter could justify charging...
The glass will need washing, there's a cost associated to that; there was likely ice, there's a cost involved in the production of that; there's labour to bring the glass of water to you, and remove it...
So, I can totally UNDERSTAND how charging for it would seem like a good idea... but I also think (and I owned a restaurant for a short while) that it's part of the cost of doing business, and should already be accounted for in the overhead, and invisible to the consumer... |

Re: [Rant] TGI Fridays charges for water. I agree, I would be pissed off if I got charged for tap water. Bottled or other fancy water is fine if they charge. I have never heard of being charged for tap before. I've been going to Fridays before they even had the "Stripes" program & have never been charged for water in more than a dozen locations across the East Coast. |

 | reply to shorteyes It depends on where you live. Some places have a water shortage (like so Cal) and many restaurants there try not to serve water if they can help it. Other places, like here, water is abundant and they'll bring you a gallon of it if you like. -- Concentrated power has always been the enemy of liberty - Ronald Reagan |

The Missus went there once. We asked the owner (a notoriously unfriendly guy) about it when we got our bill. He told us if we didn't like it we were free not to come back. We never went back. |

Was it tap water or bottled? Its understandable to charge for bottled water but a tap water charge is ridiculous.
I went to a club one time and had a bit much to drink so I asked for a cup of water. They said $5 for a bottle of water. I still had my plastic cup and said just fill it with tap water. They refused. | reply to shorteyes This weekend, myself, my wife and our friend visited an Italian restaurant back in our home town. The bus boy kept my water glass full, but charged us $1.50 for six more slices of (really fucking good) bread. He even asked before bringing out the second plate.
