[DSL] TD-8616 Won't Work

Hi,

I just purchased a TD-8616 and a Netgear N300 router to use with Teksavvy but I can't get the damn thing to work.

I've tried calling tech support but have been put on hold for 30min + each time and given up eventually.

I still have the Bell Modem and it works perfectly with the teksavvy information so its certainly not the line.

I had an old ST516 I tried and it kept disconnecting and thats what led me to buy the TD-8616 but sadly it's even worse. Very slow speeds (to the point it doesn't even load a web page) and will often loose the lights and reconnect.

Why does the Bell modem work so flawlessly and my own don't?

I like In Niagara Falls Ontario and I use a DryLoop. There is nothing else on the line. I'm using factory default for the TD-8616 as instructed by Teksavvy.

What steps have you taken to get the modem /router up and running?

Here are a few follow up questions:

Is it (the modem) in bridge mode or not?
Have you enter in the VCI settings? (I believe its 0.35 for Ontario)
Have you checked to see if your login (@dsl or @teksavvy) / password works without the router?

I think the TD-8616 is a modem only.

Try connecting PC directly to modem and use Windows PPPOE to log on and see if it works.

@apvm:

Your right; It appears to support bridge mode only.

If you haven't already done this; follow pages 6 to 17 to setup your VPI/VCI settings.

How I've set them up in the past.

Ensure modem has been reset to factory defaults.
Plug modem directly to a computer.
Assign IP : 192.168.1.2
subnet : 255.255.255.0
Gateway : 192.168.1.1

access modem via browser : »192.168.1.1
user: admin
pass: admin

Click Basic Setup
Click PVC Summary
note the PVC that has VPI 0 & VCI 35
Click Statistics at top right.
Select PVC that corresponds to VPI 0 / VCI 35

Hit save.
Your modem will then be set.

Setup router.
You should be good to go.
