Charter Spectrum → Weird IP address Ban.

Weird issue I noticed today.

I keep trying to play some clips from CMT.COM and it says my IP address is "HTTP Status 403 - The IP address is not in the allowed list", so it blocks me from that address i'm going to.

then I so a search on a similar video I'm trying to watch, and it looks like its trying to MTV, but another error saying that this video can't be played outside the united states (basically saying my IP address is from Africa).

Ok, I know I was not banned from CMT last week, and my IP address is based from Kingsport, TN on Charter.

and I'm definately not in Africa.

Why would I be getting weird errors with this IP address?

Its the same IP address I've had for about 4 months now.

rebooting the modem gives back the same IP.

Contact Charter and ask them to contact the site owners. To me it sounds like a bogon list issue for the server hosting CMT/MTV.

The IP address that your computer has could of been an inactive IP range and been blocked by bogon filtering in the past. I have seen this issue happen when trying to access CBS.com from a few locations. Those locations were unable to access CBS.com but were able to access cbsnews.com

I remember back about 4 years ago when I was in Nashville, TN and using COMCAST, I ran into the same thing where I could not access several sites (video/audio/music), because it said my IP address was outside the US.

if I remember correctly, I had a static ip address back then.

I don't have a static ip address now, but somehow i always retain the same ip address no matter what.

i'll see if I can reset my modem to factory defaults and see if i capture a new ip address.

To get a new IP address you may need to change the mac address behind the modem. I know with my provider that is the only way to get a different Ip address, but you may get an Ip address thats still inside the Ip range.

I can do DIRECTLY to cmt.com, and mtv.com.........

BUT, when I do a search for the content I want, and I click on the link with the complete URL to the link to the site is when I get the error.

So, I just go on the site, and do a search on the site for the content I want.

VERY STRANGE. I didn't see anything weird in the URL link on the BING search.

Still can't figure out the "IP in Africa" deal.

Any adblockers installed? Not that it would give you some goofy thing like a weird IP address, but might be a combination of what was said above and an adblocker.

Can you post a link to what it is you're trying to watch?

Time to enter a different MAC into the router, this gives you a new IP.

Do you have the Google redirect malware ?
Where searches are redirected through some other addresses.

many websites host their content on different servers than their main page and have different DNS entries even though the URLs are similar (or tunne through). Sounds like the CDN (content delivery network) has your IP range blocked.
