| [DSL] Best DSL modem WiFi router for 6MB DSL? I'm looking to replace an old 2Wire 2700HG-B with something that supports 802.11n. I want an integrated modem/router for simplicity and to minimize cabling, power adapters, etc. I have a solid signal on a 6Mb/s profile with a remote DSLAM a couple of blocks away so there's no special need for something that can handle marginal lines.
What do you guys recommend?
I'm looking at these two TP-Link models. Any reasons why I should prefer one over the other? 1. TP-LINK TD-W8951ND, 150Mbps Wireless N ADSL2+ Modem Router $41 2. TP-LINK TD-W8960N, 300Mbps Wireless N ADSL2+ Modem Router $49 3. ???
If I wanted something with built-in VoIP support, what do you recommend? |

Txbronx cheers from cheap seatsPremium join:2008-11-19 kudos:3 | reply to nanook The TD-VG3631 is a great router. I've used it and it works well. I still use my old WRT54GL though with DDWRT. Excellent router, it's never failed me |

| reply to nanook That Old 2 wire has beastly WiFi Signal but yes it is G, good luck myself i would just recommend The Net gear wndr3700 And going with separate router/modem i find combos are never good at both.
i know its not what you want to hear but just my 2 cents. -- Every time Someone leaves Sympatico an Angel gets its wings.

 | reply to nanook I have the 8951ND and have had it for a few days now, no complaints so far. If you live in a home, you might want to spring for the next one up, but in a small 1 bedroom apt, the 8951 works great. |

| reply to Inssomniak Thanks guys. So it seems the W89x0 series should do the job.

In fact we just got the new one in, redesigned 8961ND its kinda slick looking. It seems the older W8960N is no longer in stock at CC. But the new W8961ND is available at Newegg so that's likely what I'll get. I'm not ready to switch from POTS to VoIP so I think I'll pass on the VG3631 at twice the price.
BTW my home LAN config consists of 3 wired PCs and several wireless devices including a couple of notebooks, a couple of Android phones and a couple of media players. I also tend to seed as many as several dozen torrents although only a few are active at any given time. I'm noticing that when streaming video to one of the media players the 2Wire seems to drop one or more connections or just reboot. I'm hoping the W8961ND will be able to handle all this activity in stride.
Is that a reasonable assumption? |

I have probably more than a hundred in the field from DSL modems, routers of all models. Also the rebranded rosewill stuff is fine as well. -- OptionsDSL Wireless Internet »www.optionsdsl.ca |
