Lance Armstrong confessing doping to OprahAfter spending years denying everything, and attacking as liars all his accusers, Armstrong is reported to be confessing his doping history to Oprah this week. Needless to say, the press, especially those who defended him, are pissed. » www.nydailynews.com/spor ··· .1239104 To the end Lance Armstrong, desperate to remain relevant, somehow is allowed to control his own narrative. So after all the lies from Armstrong from across all the years, lies about himself and about all those who dared to tell the truth about him, there comes one last one:
That he still has something we want. To the end this guy thinks he can play the whole world for suckers.
Unless Armstrong and his team of lawyers and crisis managers have him back out of his interview with Oprah Winfrey at the last moment (meaning theyre still worried about legal exposure), Armstrong will confess to Oprah that he used performance-enhancing drugs.
Once Lance Armstrong, whose legend became so much bigger than the facts, was willing to say anything, hurt anybody, call people bitter or call them whores, who got in his way. Now he is willing to say anything to still make himself the hero of his own drama, the mythology he created and others helped create for him. That doesnt make you a saint or an icon or a hero. It makes you a cornered rat. » articles.chicagotribune. ··· -winfrey» www.nydailynews.com/spor ··· .1238932» www.theatlantic.com/ente ··· /267102/ |

In reply to the topic as opposed to the original poster or any posters that precedes this post in this thread:
Ah, the fragile ego of some poor souls in the media and in other places too. First, most of the media's distinguished, cough, cough, outrage about the hypocrisy of Armstrong--what a crock. The talking heads and media clowns should avoid all talk about hypocrisy. That is especially true for those jealous media pundits that use the Armstrong situation to shine the spotlight of their highly charged rhetoric to portray themselves as noble and pure sources of enlightenment, morality, and wisdom as well as the true unbiased protectors of the truth.
Armstrong cheated and lied about it just as all his genuine rivals did when they were accused and then caught, and that includes other Tour winners.
Don't forget that the cheating was so rampant and widespread that the governing authorities are going to leave the seven years of Armstrong Tour wins vacated--they are not going to award the win to whoever finished second. Why? Well, uh, because everyone doped too so what would be the point? All should pause and give serious thought to that.
Then, of course, there is the small problem that the USDA "cheated" themselves in "prosecuting" Armstrong. They suspended their own statute of limitation and rules to get him. They also weren't shy about soliciting or extorting "jailhouse informants" witnesses against Armstrong.
When the guys that are supposed to protect and enforce the rules that maintain the integrity of the sport obsessively break their own rules to accomplish that, where is the bigger story? Is it one rider or the agency that's the sport's watchdog?
Armstrong doped, cheated and lied. Some people are upset strictly about that. But too many others aren't really upset about that. That's a front. They actually are angry because Armstrong was the best rider ever, that he won on a level playing field, and he is an American.
Just my two-cents worth. |

Just my two-cents worth. The whole bicycle racing sport used drugs. And almost everyone knew that. The wonder was how Armstrong cheated as well, but kept passing the drug tests. As long as the drug tests didn't catch all the cheaters, the incentive was there for all the riders to cheat. Too bad too, because taking these drugs has long term health issues for the riders. Just proves how stupid many athletes are who risk their health for some big money. But then, like the NFL players, whine about it in later life when the real costs come due(re: NFLPA lawsuits against NFL). |

The whole doping issue is getting to be old news with Armstrong now and he's just doing this to generate some money and attention. I think the really important part of this is guessing what he'll say or do on Oprah. * Issue an apology, but not specify what he's apologizing for. * Cry. * Jump up and down on the couch. * Pee in a bottle. Yeah, that should be on the list but so should some others as well...Like OJ and then you could add all the lies told to the world leading up to Shock & Awe against Iraq etc..Could end up being a rather long list. But being its the New York Post no question their list is slanted and flawed. |

Both Lance and Oprah are milking this for all its worth...Kind of reminds of the drama leading up to the eventual non event of Geraldo Rivera opening Al Capone's safe on national TV. |

Or the waste of airtime that was Lebron's announcement he was heading to Miami. Could have been done in 2 minutes. |
