The reasoning is that you get the bonus transmutes for additional high end mats for your other professions. Flasks if you raid.
Carpie posted : Good advice by all. After reading this I'm leaning more towards the Elixir spec now. Even though living like a dragon is cool, I'm not out to sit on a pile of gold so transmute is on the bottom of th list for me.

Zupe posted : I'm currently Elixir spec (which also covers Flasks), and would generally recommend either that or Transmution depending on what you want it for.

Potions give very short term buffs (usually 30 seconds or less), so unless you're using them for something special (progression raiding for that extra bit of dps, or maybe pvp or something), I wouldn't expect to be using them that often. The exception would be healing/mana potions, but I tend to get a bunch of those from other sources (lockboxes, Blingtron 4000, etc.)

Elixir spec covers Elixirs and Flasks, which are the longer term buffs. Getting extra Flask procs is nice, and can keep you in enough flasks and elixirs to cover raiding or dungeons or whatever. You can probably make decent gold selling the extra procs too, though it'll be a bunch of relatively small sales.

I'm guessing Transmute spec would be the most "large profit at once" spec, as if you hit on extra Living Steel or whatever, those will sell for quite a bit. I was transmute spec a few expansions back and found that it didn't proc often enough for my tastes, but I'm not sure how it is these days.
--
Brain: Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?
Pinky: I think so, Brain, but "Snowball for Windows"?

Carpie posted : I'm guessing potions are going to be the most common to create at 90 also? I'm assuming flask are mostly raid geared for the quick 15 second stat boosts? And transmutes are primarily used just in those situations where someone needs a gem turned into another? (Granted this is 80% speculation on my part)

Vinceruos_t posted : It doesnt make a difference as far as levling up your proff. What each spec does is give you a chance to proc additional items when you make them. So if you are a potion master then when you make potions you have a chance to proc more then one. Same thing with flasks and transmutes. So basically just pick which specialization you think you will be making the most of. And they can have multiple procs. I had a 5 proc living steel transmute last night. Lol

Carpie posted : So I was raising my alchemy spec on an alt last night when I saw (right before I logged because it was way past time my ass should have been asleep) that at 475 you get a quest and have to choose between 3 specializations? I *believe* they were potions, flasks, or transmutations?

Can someone fill me in with what this is all about? Does it make a big difference which route you go? I have a guildie that is also leveling alchemy and is about the same level so if there are advantages seen from each of the paths, I'll make sure we take different ones.
