[rant] can't remove programming on directv.comI have had direct for a while. Was always getting "discounted" programming when I would call up and complain that certain packages were beyond my budget. Well, I realized that I rarely watch move of the premium movies and just wanted to cancel altogether. I tried going to my account and there is no option to remove programming online instead you have to call. I called up and after 5 minutes of talking to a rep and her reluctance to want to cancel, I just hung up. She kept trying to offer a couple of options, etc. I told her no. In frustration I just hung up. I realize that Directv wants to try and keep customers and especially for the pricey movie packages, but it is a real pain. I am pretty sure that when I had Cablevision, I was able to change programming online. |

Do you want to stay with them at all? If they are going to try the run around, and do their tactics to make you keep spending more money than you want just tell them to cancel your entire service today as they can't follow a simple damn request.
This is pretty standard, they want to try to talk you out of spending less money.
The morons at my fathers cable company tried to say he'll lose channels like the .tv channels... the what? some fing garbage nobody watches, and other bullcrap this this.
Just cancel them, and stop paying for tv to begin with. Bring out those rabbit ears, and maybe a small online sub for less than $10 per month if you think you need it. |

Call them again.
Tell them you're moving to a complex that does not have or allow DirecTV and you need to cancel today.
Simple. Effective. Done. |

If you want to quit DirecTV, you have to be strong. They will offer you all kinds of crap to stay on. |

Re: [rant] can't remove programming on directv.comI don't mind Directv. I think their hardware is good and the quality of the pic is good. I will give it one more try to get rid of the programming I don't want. Still want/need Directv but I can get by with more "basic" programming and just use Hulu and my Apple TV for other programming. |

Didn't AOL get in trouble for similar tactics a while back? |

Re: [rant] can't remove programming on directv.comI had the same frustration with them. As shows I would watch would come on, I would add the channels online. Each time I wanted to remove them, I would have to call and try to be convinced otherwise.
In the end, I dumped them for Dish. So far, I have been very happy with Dish. I was paying $150 for DirecTV and wanted the Genie receiver. They just would not budge and would not give it to me (although it is a lease and you have to return it upon leaving). They wanted me to pay $300. At one point one of the reps said I would be committing fraud if I tried to cancel the account under my name and then open a new one under my wifes name so we could be considered new customers and get the stupid Genie.
I finally gave up and decided to cancel. I called five times before it was actually done. The first two times they gave me wrong info (they said the account was under my wifes name), the other times they said they had cancelled although they did not. The last time I was finally able to. |
