Selling modem DCM 475Leaving Ebox due to Zazeen TV offer and high cost TV cable. I'm selling the modem to avoid hassles of not having internet during disconnection and move to Distributel by buying a new identical one.
The modem costs me at 99$ + taxes bought with Ebox, I've been using it only for merely 6 months. Anyone interested, PM me. Downtown Montreal is where I can bring it for pick up. Modem is in good condition. I'm selling it only because of switch time frame and need internet during the move. I've appreciated the stability of Ebox cable during my short stay and never have an issue.
It's always expensive to do that kind of switching ISP due to new setup fees involved and all the troubles you may have with hmac address not released on time. So, I'll let it go for the price of $50. It will be only available to pickup on February 1st. |

Expect some downtime, i had about 30 hours of downtime... i lost internet on the december 16 with ebox around 2AM, and i was activated in the 17 around 8:30-9 AM on acanac. i kept my ebox modem until i had a connection with acanac, but in the timeframe of the downtime, both modem were rejected my videotron network. |

There is probably no down time in my case. I hope so. The new modem will be activated several days before disconnection service with Ebox. I'll be ok. But it still takes 10 working days wait starting from the day you order the service with Distributel. I also just put the same sale message to RFD site for wider visibility. But Distributel told me that I can not use the modem and needed to buy from them because of unlimited reason. It does not matter anyway since I wanted like this. |

The chance are that videotron will then disconnect both modem. It happen to one of my friend. Hope it will not be the case for you. |

Good to know but why Videotron would do that. Distributel paid them 3x the fee that they charge you back as little as $40 setup fee. Thx. By the way, modem is now reserved to be sold. RFD is lightning fast. I got 5 pms in an hour I posted it. |

Do you mean then it's safer to get Ebox disactivate cable internet first before reactivating with other ISPs? The other way around, the tech could disconnect both modems since two of them are activated instead of one. Not sure how the tech does, he must somehow know which hmac address of the modem to release? We'll see how this thing work then. At least I make sure to tell the technician to make note when he comes to install the modem. |

I have no clue as to what is safest, but I would make sure that the tech know that you still have internet with a TPIA. |

Off topic question... Why chose distributel when Acanac has the exact same service (distributel goes throught Acanac) and Acanac is a little bit cheaper ? |

Good question! I've been before with Acanac for dsl and never had an issue. Thus, I could sign up again with Acanac but did not do. It has more to do with my perception as I've pictured Distributel as a premium service over Acanac and its no contract system makes peace of mind whenever you want to leave. Though it's more expensive as I am aware of, I opted more for all the times top speed to avoid peak hours but if you go month by month, it's not big difference when billed $62.95. It also has to do more with upload speed as 3Mbit/s upload but it may be as well with Acanac though the site does not state it. Acanac or Distributel, they all run on Videotron network as does Ebox anyway. I don't need the free phone home service anyway. I paid the same amount with Ebox so it comes back the same thing except I get lower speed but will gain the unlimited feature so I can subscribe to Zazeen tv offer, so it will save me more on high expenses on long term on cable tv fee. |

In Québec, Acanac goes through Distributel not the opposite. I would choose Distributel instead of Acanac but Ebox has a lot better service. Good luck if you get problem with Acanac. |

Finally, all works out pretty well for me. I did have only short time of downtime. Ebox modem was no longer functionning on same day Distributel service kicks in.
Distributel's service was great. No complaints. Installation is similar to Ebox, with Videotron technician came and install the modem and close the work order. An hour later, modem up and running like a charm. The unlimited feature has relieved me of worries of going over quota as I used to go over 400gb easily and paid extra that I don't have to now.
Btw, the guy who reserved the modem barged out so it's still on sale at 50$ MTL downtown only. I'm not in a hurry since I can use it as a spare if the other one broke. But I will sell it if you guys are still interested so you can use with the new upload speed. It's still a good buy. |
