DOCSIS 3.0 upgrade took forever in Maine
While I've been enjoying DOCSIS 3.0 since 2009 at my house in Western Mass on Comcast, Time Warner did not upgrade southern Maine (Biddeford) until 2012. And they would not issue a D3 modem unless I upgraded Grandma's Internet to the 30/5 tier (which is $10 more a month). I think Comcast does not even carry D2 modems on their trucks anymore and they use D3 modems for their lower tiers as D3 uses system resources more efficiently. The 30/5 Internet is good for when I go up there as I am used to the faster speeds as my connection at home is 50/10. I did install one of my TiVo boxes at her house to offset the cost on the TV in my room at her house as it is $1.75 per month for the cable card as opposed to $8 for a converter. I put the other TiVo in storage (both have lifetime subs) as I upgraded to the Comcast AnyRoom DVR.
