Internet connection speed much lower when connected wireless

Dell Laptop, Win 7 HP, router is Linksys WRT-160N. When connected to router through internal Wireless card (laptop and router in the same room), I get .8 Mbps download, 7 Mbps upload. Connected through Ethernet cable, I get 20/7... Tested a second laptop connected to same router wirelessly, speed tests results are normal. So I thought, maybe is the wireless card. Checked driver, reset TCP/IP, nothing. So I got an external USB wireless adapter, Netgear WNA150. Installed, connected to router, disabled internal wireless card, did speed test... .8 mbps download, 7 upload!!

So it's not the adapter itself, but something that both must have in common. Suggestions?
