QOS configuration, IP Phone within VPN

I have a Netgear WNR3500L. I work from home frequently and use a computer based IP phone to communicate with work. Currently we are using Microsoft Lync for both IM and IP Phone. I have to connect to work utilizing VPN software.

I would like to ensure the IP phone traffic is bumped up in QoS, but I'm thinking that since it is wrapped up in the VPN, any router side configuration isn't going to see phone traffic directly.

Am I going about this the right way? Any thoughts?

You can prioritize vpn traffic at the router, then prioritize Lync at the pc.

I'm not that familiar with the wnr3500 but if it has bandwidth control, you could give more bandwidth to UDP on that IP address and less bandwidth to the TCP traffic. But then again, you would need to know what that VPN'd IP address was or even if your router could see it.
