Satisfied Hughesnet gen4 customer

After all of the negative comments on this site and others I was very wary of trying Hughesnet but I needed a reliable Internet connection and signed up in october after getting a recommendation from a longtime Hughesnet user, I'm happy to report after being on Gen4 for 3 months now that its been great, no problems or issues with anything.
Just want to put this out there for people who don't have any other good options for their Internet that for me it's been great!

Glad you are satisfied. But what type of speed are you seeing when you do a speedtest with say testmy.net.

Just tried testmy.net it is at 7.7 Mbps down 325 Kbps up

I'm glad that you are happy with that speed, but that's not what you should be getting. Nor will it last.

Just tried it with speed test and results were comparable with above, currently we have two computers connected and being used.

I've been testing with speed test most everyday, a few times its been slower than above, on average it's been running 9 to 10 down and .5 to 1.5 up Mbps, hope your wrong about it not lasting. I'll update this post if I start having problems with it.

ranman2, we are probably on the same beam, beam 57, here in N. Fla. Had our Gen 4 system as long as you have, with virtually no problems either.
Speeds tonight 13.59 Mbps down / 1.57 Mbps up on the 15/2 plan. The forums are full of those with problems, but there are far more users with good running systems not posting, because they are out using their systems and enjoying it... thus no need to post.
And those with problems are far more vocal than those without.

Those are decent speeds and I would think most sat internet users would be happy with that. Hope they hold for you.

When testing, i see the download bar drop clear down to 0 then jump up a little then die back down to 0 then shoots back up.. I can't do an upload speed at all cause it times out and I'm still trying to get hughesnets speedtest tools to load but again it keeps timing out.. Second night this is happening so far, with random disconnections.

I really think it is the beam you are on, I say this because when SPW3 came out they were going to upgrade me and it didn't work real well, so from an engineer at Hughes, yes you heard that right an engineer finally said that there was an issue with the beam I was on so I stayed on the 7000 for a few more years and then had to switch and at that time all was good.

I have been a HughesNet customer since 2003 and was happy for almost 100% of the time. I did have a few issues but they were fixed and my system ran pretty good. I had the DW6000 and the HN7000S. Now I have upgraded, I mean downgraded, to the Gen 4. I am in MD and on beam 34. Here are my latest speed test. I am on the lowest plan. Of course these were run from the HughesNet site since that is the only speed test results they will accept.

The biggest part of that group seems ok except these ones.. They could be congestion so no worries (not your end) and its been said over and over from time to time that its recommended to do a speedtest everyday approx. a total of 6 times each day or 4, do a few in the morning and one in afternoon.

Maybe if I didn't know better I would except those speeds. However I have all these test to show the speeds I was getting over a period of time.

That is a good question. I feel it is because Harry is getting those good speeds. If all of us see them we will expect the same. They don't want that.

Beam 10 in Oregon and very satisfied with speeds, up and down since switching in November.
I rarely run speed tests, just as I've never run my VW R32 up to top speed to see if it's as fast as advertised. Those of you that know what an R32 is know it's plenty fast enough *grins*
