DogT posted : Our G4 has now been in operation for 1 month now. Just rolled over to another 10GB. I did call yesterday, March 12 and complained about having to wait for pages to load for what I call excessive amounts of time. Like anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes. I know nothing is wrong because when I do the 'connectivity test' it is fine. There's a block at the NOC I'm sure for some unknown reason. Every time I try to call service, I have to wait so long things work again and they can never get a test on it. I did have a tech out once and he said the equipment is fine, but he also saw the problems. Now I'm not saying it's like this all the time. I've been making a list of when it happens. The 9th it happened 3 times, at least a 6 minute wait. The 11th again 3 times, and on the 12th I waited at least 15 minutes for things to start working. Now when it works, it's fine. My download speeds range from 3 to 9 mb, usually the upper end. I did negotiate a 3 month $20/mo refund. They keep telling me things will improve and I actually got one guy to tell me they know there's an issue, most of them tell me it's static in the modem. What BS. I'm on beam 33. Since I just started a new 2 year service, we'll see if maybe the verizon 4G LTE may be available to us by then. Now that would be some serious competition.

Sandeea728 posted : Count me in! I am thinking of starting a website "Let's put HughesNet out of Business" and charging a $1.00 to visitors... using the money to advertise on every page that HughesNet searches might turn up. This is a group of dishonest clowns. After speaking at length with the salesman who assured me that the speed would accommodate my insurance/health care management business needs and the use of LogMeIn for my remote workers, I spent three weeks going back and forth with the "professionals" at HughesNet. Although the speeds I was experiencing was closer to what I might get with a 20 cent dial up modem, they kept telling me everything was working just fine. For you consumers out there who expect people to be straight with you, speed and latency are two different things. Speed is upload/download. This is what they advertise. I bought the shiny new Gen4 version to handle my business needs with lightening speeds of up to 15 mps. Up to is the operational word. I learned that HughesNet means by UP TO is that is is not beyond the realm of possibility, but don't count on it... What they really mean, according to Tier 4 Hugh at HughesNet, is that you can expect only 60% of that speed.. so 15 really means 9.... Still doesn't sound so bad does it... Well it is. This doesn't mean that your speeds will vary between 9 and 15 ... it means that if you AVERAGE 9, then you are spot on... So if you get a 2, 3, 5 10, 15, and an 8 and this averages an 8.6, well you are really close to that 60%,so you're all good. Latency is another little speed issue they don't mention until you complain that everything you are using times out. Then they yell at you!! Dummy, don't you know that the signal is going all the way to outer space, some 23,000 miles and back. What are you expecting, miracles????? I really thing ol' Hugh needs to take a Valium! But then, no, I did not know that. I thought that if you asked if a company could perform a service, they would be honest enough to tell you if it was not possible. Not HughesNet. What a bunch of clowns!!! I am not a nut... I rarely complain about stuff. If you are an innocent thinking that maybe only malcontents are posting here, please believe me... RUN!!! Verizon Wireless MIFI which fits inside my purse provides 20X faster service, polite and helpful customer service and the price is far more reasonable. :uhh:

DogT posted : Yes, I'm getting in the 700's now, my HN7000S was over a second usually. There are still some pages that take a few seconds to load. I was just looking at Verizon Home Fusion, but my usage is mostly browsing, no movies, games, etc. so even the 7000 was adequate for me, it was just getting tiresome with the slow evenings and drop outs for an hour or more. And Verizon is no cheaper. Perhaps my equipment was getting old and unreliable, anyhow I'm on G4 now.

I'm just having trouble accessing my account, it's a strange way to get to it, the Support Center that is.
DogT posted : Something in our HN7000S died on Sunday the 10th and I called to have them fix it, but Monday morning the 11th I called and said to go G4. Installer called Tuesday morning and said they'd be out Wednesday morning. I thought 'Yeah, sure'. Installer called again Tuesday pm to verify and they showed up Wednesday morning and G4 was going by noon. Now that's not bad. I've heard other experiences, but mine was not bad. I'm getting around 7-8MB down, don't worry about up. Latency is what kills me and the computer, but so far no DNS or 'Try again' signs.

I did have to move the dish to the roof because of tree issue, so it cost me an extra $125. We'll see. I had a 2 week fight with Hughes (2 hour sessions) about the performance when I first installed G4. It never went over 500K down and 100K up. High level tech support which they promised after 3 two hour sessions never responded but at some point they magically fixed it. Now I'm seeing 7MB and 800K on a good day and 400k and 50K on a bad. It is very erratic. It will go between the worst and best between tests. Evenings it is usually worst.
To the satisfied users I agree. It does work. When they fix problems it works even better but getting them to admit something isnt right, is just ridiculous. The tech support, India and the US, are always trying to tell you that you dont have a problem when their own tests say there is. Their product works but it could and should be sooo much better. As soon as I can switch to something else I will and I'm not alone. That's a poor business model for any company.

nasfan24 posted : I have been a HughesNet customer since 2003 and was happy for almost 100% of the time. I did have a few issues but they were fixed and my system ran pretty good. I had the DW6000 and the HN7000S. Now I have upgraded, I mean downgraded, to the Gen 4. I am in MD and on beam 34. Here are my latest speed test. I am on the lowest plan.
